    Plywood! Who knew?

If anyone is going to the V&A, this looks like a good exhibition.

    Re: Plywood! Who knew?

The trouble with organic materials is that there is no "guarantee", it's hard to make something of uniform quality, and weak spots aren't easily uncovered
The use of leather in motorcycle boots has been all but abandoned for this reason and has been replaced with plastics (I'll probably see the day suits will follow sooner than I'd wish)

As (safety)standards get higher, putting trust in imperfect/unreliable materials is not an option

Erm... leather in MC boots all but abandoned?!

    I really must disagree.

Leather boots are without a doubt still the most prominent material in motorcycling footwear... and leather in motorcycling kit across the board (not crash helmets though!).

I have never worn synthetic MC boots. Neither will I. For one thing the time to degrade for leather when thrown out is measured in decades rather than centuries.

Natural over plastics for me any day of the week. Better for your feet too. Plastic will give you foot rot in no time if you ride for any length beyond half a day.

(I do however wear Kevlar lined jeans on occasion.)

    Boots aside...

Material quality from natural materials is actually very easily quantified. Especially with wood, and certainly when you know its source.

The Navy (everyones Navy) used wood for a long long long long time. The construction industry still does and increasingly so over masonry. It's a primary construction material.

As for ply wood, it is a composite. We use composites all the time and for good reason.

    Just saying !

    EDIT:

Choice of footware is totally betwen a man (or woman) and his (or her) feet !!

and its true that we dont make wooden planes much these days.

    But....

I recon there could ba market for motorcycling Cloggs....

    very hard wearing you know.

im gonna stick with leather though...

    hehe !

I'm also quite surprised with [EDIT]SPAM??[/EDIT]. Really is more efficient and durable than one would expect.
