    Hello, Boo

Is there room for one more?

I'm new to this racing thing and I've not flown any of the aircraft yet so I'll need lots of practice! I'm willing to give it a go though!

I've not set any key bindings yet so that's another challenge.

For the sukoi just remember the engine spins the other way than a spit / hurri / 109, so on take off you need some left rudder/ aileron rather than right...its a lot of fun to fly. You also have to coordinate your aileron and rudder for the turns if you want to be quick (just like real flying- its great practice for anyone for flying the war birds in clod IMO)

as for key bindings the only ones you need that you wont already have set up for a spit/hurri are oil radiator, the stopwatch (I save a separate profile for the sukoi and have the stop watch on the trigger) and WEP (in the sukoi this toggles aerobatic smoke on/off).

Spawn in. set chocks, set water and oil rad to 30% start engine, set prop pitch to 85% open throttle to 100% wait for the shaking to stop, pre-select a little left rudder, some left aileron, stick slightly forward....then chocks out....takes a little practice but its not the hardest thing in clod to learn. You don't need to adjust any settings after that - just fly it....

its a lot of fun especially when there is a group of you. Id bet that after the official event there will be some unofficial races with us all going off together in the sukoi - 3 abreast into the first hanger - too much fun not to

    Thanks for the info Dave.

I've just flown Sukoi in single player. Had a look around the cockpit and saw the oil rad and set it, opened the canopy but couldn't close it! I'll take a look at the stopwatch and WEP, but how do I start my engine? I turned it off but couldn't restart it! Every time I threw the switch I got 'engine stopping' but no 'engine starting'. I've got my engine switch set to toggle. Am I missing something?

I'm going to practice with with those settings you're giving, and hopefully flying the Sukoi will be second nature to me on the day.

It won't bother me finishing last - just taking part will be fantastic! It certainly seems a fun plane to fly.

No problem - I forgot to mention 'fuel on' in my above post - that might be your issue with starting? (should be no different than any other plane - same key bind to start as a spit or whatever)

I will be on holiday in sunsoaked Cornwall.

Otherwise I'd be trying my hand at this too.

Bet it will be a great giggle !

Re: GATWICK AIR RACE 2017 - 18th AUGUST 2200 UTC (11PM UK TIME)

I'm hoping the event will be fun.

Hopefully the time trial part will allow the chaps who race hard to get something out of it without the fickle hand of fate (or my Sokoi) striking them down!!

The Classic rally should be messy though thanks to Freda in the font and that upper wing!!

Shame you cant make it but Cornwall is not to be sniffed at. Enjoy!

Re: GATWICK AIR RACE 2017 - 18th AUGUST 2200 UTC (11PM UK TIME)

    Racers!!

The time trials will see us setting of at 15 second intervals to help avoid compromises and collisions whilst getting the 1st race finished in a good time.

Even at those intervals though there will be some risk of players catching each other, especially at the extremes of the scale. I want to avoid this to better ensure the speeders can speed and the rest of us can do our level best without having to worry about being overtaken.

SO - id be grateful if, in the days immediately before the event, you could send me your best average times. This will allow me to bring the faster averages out front. By average I'm looking at the rough figure to within 5 or 10 seconds you normally get around in. For me its 7.00 (sometimes 6.56, sometimes 7.03). If you don't send me a time, expect to be starting last

And remember, even if you see players going off before you, they still gotta finish and make the gates so don't be put off - tortoise and hare and all that....

OH - AND THIS IS IMPORTANT - BOTH RACES REQUIRE YOU TO NOT EXCEED THE LEVEL OF THE TOWERS AT THE START - SO TAKE OFF, ADJUST YOUR PANTS AND FLY FOR THE GATE - NO CLIMBING UP TO HEAVEN IN ORDER TO SWOOP DOWN AT MACH 3. Ta!

    Thanks BOO
