Fighter cover?
For Stukas???
Why? I rather think the red side would need some F 18s to protect their Spits and Hurris from them.
Oh well, I will try to be there anyway ...
Nice - I'll be there as heavy fighter cover in my 110.
Quick note for those who want awesome Stuka diving noises when they roll over onto the target; you have to open the airbrake before your dive. In the Stuka it's on your lower left side next to the trim controls.

Just to be clear
15th September is Battle of Britain Day in the UK. My thought was originally to try and mass 111s to raid London in recognition of this but people seemed to prefer Stukas. So, the idea is to run a Stuka raid as would have perhaps been seen in the opening stages of the BOB, with fighter cover. The idea is NOT to use the Stukas as fighters even though their over powered FMs allow this (at least not until the raid is done).
If everyone intends jettisoning their load to go hunting at the first sign of the enemy then there is no point to any effort in putting this event on. That's why I'm asking for fighter cover. I know we will have the Rudelbums trying to kill as many of us as they can before we shoot them to oblivion but there is nothing I can do about that.
I have no problem with turning and burning on the deck once we are coming out of target though. None at all. At bit of give and take if you will.
Sorry if that comes off as me being a dick about it but it does take a fair bit of work to sort this kind of stuff both before and on the night. Each must play a part etc etc.

Stuka is the easiest aircraft to fly and fight in of all types in CoD.
Just show up and have fun.
Its true - The Stuka is an easy aircraft to fly - but it still has a few basic systems to learn and there will be 15-20 other 87s hopefully - that's a big mass of metal to move in anything approaching a co-ordinated manner. So an hour's familiarisation and checking you either know where to click or binding keys to the stuff you need to click really helps everyone. Nothing worse than getting to target and someone asking "where are the dive brakes" or "how do I set the bombing altitude".
To date the formations have been pretty loose- that makes it hard for our cover and easy for our opposition. For this we will need to be as close as we can get to one another. Which leads nicely to the fact that your mate in the back is a drunk who cant shoot straight. Again, being able to hop positions and set up the gun quickly will be really useful.
None of this stuff is hard but it does needs checking beforehand.
A SIMPLE CHECKLIST FROM AN EXPEREIENCED 87 JOCK WOULD BE REALLY GREAT IF IT WERE POSTED..............

Agreed.
Thanks for organizing this BOO.
Its fun to see Stukas flying on the server.
If you like Stukas, you can to fly close to them, to take a closer look.
First take a close look at the gunner.
Then circle back 'round and take a good close look at the pilot.
It's fun to watch them dive!
See you there!

The below is from a post I made from the original 2015 Stuka Storm event - hopefully its useful:
"It looks like the spits are almost full and we are still in need of stuka pilots. So for those who havnt flown it who normally fly red come and join the 'dark side' for the evening . Stukas are a lot of fun, very easy to fly and the event will be a great laugh if well attended. Forget your normal allegiances and so on for the event - its not a red v blue event, but rather a chance to get a large formation of bombers in the air in a semi organised fashion. The winners of the event will be those taking part and the losers those who miss out
For those Hurricane and spitfire pilots who have not tried the stuka, below are the additional controls you need to set up to fly it. Throttle, prop pitch, switching gunsight on, fuel on/off, flaps and so on work just the same as in your regular ride. Radiator uses same control but works slightly different (just like a 109), you move the control to open or close it to a setting you want (50% is a set and forget setting once airborne) and release the control once its at your desired setting - there is a handy dial in cockpit (top right) - pointing to 5 o clock position is fully open, 1 o clock fully closed , 3 o clock = 50%.
From the VIEW menu:
- 'lean to gunsight' (you need this somewhere handy to use repeatedly in a fight). Some folks swear by it, others swear about it - optional
From the AIRCRAFT (KEYS) menu add:
- Toggle airbrake (occasional use) - comes with free siren sounds and an alarmingly steep flight towards the earth/sea
- Drop Ordnance (somewhere handy of course) - drop your bomb(s)
- Toggle bombs armed (used once per flight) - somewhat embarrassing if you forget this bit before dropping your bombs...which never happens of course
- Select previous bomb bay (somewhere handy) - these allow you to drop the large central bomb separately to the wing bombs so you get to bomb two rather than just one ship/target . Central bomb is bomb bay 1,
- Select next bomb bay (somewhere handy) - see above
- close oil radiator (occasional use)
- Open oil radiator(once per flight) - set it at 55% and forget about it basically.
- #1 Supercharger previous step (occasional use)
- #1 Supercharger next step (once per flight) - unleash the full & er 'awesome' power of the stuka engine above 1500m
- close side window (occasional use)
- open side window (once per flight) - opens the aiming window between your feet in the cockpit - a nice breeze in the cockpit is useful on a warm day or indeed to get rid of any unpleasant aromas resulting from seeing 3 spits suddenly drop into your 6 o clock
Fun guaranteed or your money back "

I shall be there. Please reserve one (1) Stuka with extra loud siren. (deposit is in the mail)
I propose the mother of all Stuka dives from 8000 meters. A massive formation

I would like to mention that the Stuka with extended dive brakes automatically drop the bombs at a predetermined height,
and then intercept automatically the fall of the Ju87.
This height can be adjusted by the instrument above the altimeter. (white/red pointer).
Of course you can also trigger the bombs manually - and the Stuka will also
automatically intercept the fall of the plane in this case. (But only with extended dive brakes!)
But, if you want to trigger the bombs manually, then turn (just a suggestion) the drop height to a lower setting.
Otherwise the bombs will be dropped before you can press the trigger, or the target is in the sight.
Of Course that depends on the height from which you want to throw
The propeller automatic reacts a bit sluggish. A setting of 85% can be used (after the start) for the entire flight
Whether I will participate myself I can not yet say, but the date of the event
has been posted in the JG4 forum and i'm sure there will be - as always - some pilots of the JG4
to fly escort or bombers
Salute
1./St.G.129 will participate.
I shall volunteer to represent the valiant Mediterranean flyboys and escort you Stuka jockeys in a G50, if available , you can then come to my rescue and save my arse when I get into my usual pickle in a G50 trying to fight half the RAF in one go!
As far as I see, up to now I am the only RAF that may make an appearance.
So I don't think anybody on the blue side has to worry, whatever they might fly.
Morituri te salutant etc.
Oh they always turn up DerDa!!
@ Meyer - Thanks - I always appreciate the support of 9./JG52 as you know. Sorry you'll miss this one personally.
@ Thorwald - Thanks for taking the time to post the info! - I appreciate it.
Hope you can make it but if not I hope to see some JG4 on the night in capacities various.
@Snarglepuss - I look forward to hearing your sage wit and advice on coms Sir!!
@Cassius, that's for your support!! Greatly appreciated.
@Gromit - one thing Clod guarantees is sunshine so you olive eating types should feel right at home. We will be flying above 150ft for some of the way, will your G50 be ok with that? - I'll pack you a coat just in case.
