RAF Station Tangmere - The Fallen & The Museum

I spent the early part of this week having a look around the old RAF Tangmere aerodrome (runway long gone), and the museum.

    The fallen (on both sides):

The Museum (I only concentrated on the prop jobs):

Saw the post reference your Tangmere visit, Billy Fiske and the video you posted on the ACG forum Nails.

Very interesting, as was the link Larry provided for the No.601 Sqdn website. My Father was on the Sqdn working on Vampires after the war.

Cheers Vampire. Thanks for your words.

My dad also worked on Vampires, the Sea version. He was on HMS Ocean looking after the sea fury. I think the Vampire was the first jet to land on a carrier.

    Nails!
    Thanks for sharing.

I watched a video today about 'if a civvy could land a commercial jet'.It was all serious and stuff.
While this was all simulation in a modern day commercial simulator, with a pilot at the ready telling them how to do it, I could not help but ask myself, thats cool in a sim but what about if the chips were really down, nobody around to help or guide you?

Just looking at your slides/slide rule images/etc and thinking about the challenges of navigating effectively under fire, let alone flying a bit, does my head in.

edit:not sure why the vids arr no longer displayed.

Thanks Vlerkies. You could feel the ghosts of people passed there.

I'm seeing the Embeds OK. But if I try to view the thread via my tablet for example, I don't see the link either! Probably a browser problem!
