    Re: The Turbinlite Havoc

Harry Harris did a episode on the Striling that was shot down over sussex in the series "War Digs" which is probably on right now somewhere in the UKs freeview channels....

East Kirby (home of the Lancaster "Just Jane") also has some debris from a Turbinlite Havoc on display (but not that you'd recognise it) that crashed in the Lincolnshire Fens.

BTW - that experimental night camo is just crying out to be applied to a Beau or Blenni........

Fair dues it was a totally potty idea, you have to know where the bandit is to light him up, and the guy is not going to sit there whilst you shine your light and totally blind everyone's night vision as soon as he eludes the beam!

Obviously thought up by a guy in a white coat with a pipe!

Yes the idea sounds daft now, but back then it probably seemed perfectly reasonable - remember humans had only been flying since 1903!

Use ground radar and the onboard RDF to get you close to the target and then light it up.

The same sort of idea worked fairly well when hunting U-boats with Leigh Light equipped Wellingtons.

It's a classic case of what can happen when four seemingly professional gentlemen wear clowns trousers to work.
