I don't know if it is my incompetence or not but I never managed a ditching on the 109. With the old IL-2 it was pretty easy, instead in CLOD the plane never floats.

Aircraft don't float.
They have a smaller air bubble in their cockpit than a car, and we all know how fast cars sink.
Pilots had a very short time to get out of the cockpit... if they were not knocked unconscious by the collision with the water. Remember when contacted at 80+ mph, water has similar initial surface tension as a piece of concrete.
The 109 floats at least a full minute, unless toppled by a wave. I think Galland recommended to ditch because that way one could use the dingy equipped below the seat. A ditch event would be useful also.
