    Cool Rookie reporting!

    Ey yo!

I'm so glad having found this community and the spare time to spend with you guys.
Coming here with a background from organised MilSim gaming (ArmA III), I was at first surprised at how... decentralized this community is, which only further intrigued me. Airmen's free spirit I guess.
Considering the absence of an official enlistment procedure and interview, I'll try to make myself familiar to you right here in the hope of making as many friends as I get shot down.

My real name is Vương, don't worry about correct pronunciation, you will be corrected if needed. Or just call me "Viktor".
I'm 20 years old, born in Vietnam, studying Physical Engineering in FH-Aachen, Germany.

I have list of hobbies so ridiculously large that they may not qualify as hobbies. One of them happens to be combat flight sim.
I am drawn towards increasingly complex games, often taking bites too big to chew at start, that only become enjoyable after long periods of abandonment and masochistic learning attempts. I believe that you can and SHOULD develop a healthy set of skill or knowledge from whatever activity you are engaged in, be it professional, academic, or just entertainment. My definition of "healthy" knowledge is one that has its practical place in real society.

I'm here to have fun, but first and foremost to seriously learn historical air combat tactics (which is the fun part anyway), a purpose that I'm sure have been vested into the right place.
So come at me, aces and rookies alike, I offer myself as target practice in return for your valuable lessons.
Show me no mercy in the air, yet please give this n00b some room to learn.

See you in battle lads! Auf Wiedersehen im Schlacht!

P/S: My Internet is FUBAR at the moment will remain so for an unknown duration, so unfortunately can't join you guys soon.

Welcome, Welcome! If you ever are feeling even more masochistic you can tag along with me in the Bf-110!
Learning to effectively fight in it is a chore but is heavily rewarding, I find.

You'll find that 11 times out of 10, the people you meet on TeamSpeak and these forums are willing and able to help with any questions.

Welcome to the community. Get onto the ATAG the teamspeak server when you fly, you'll find pilots who will willingly share their knowledge & experience with various aircraft & tactics.

    Hi Vương,

and welcome to the CloD community.
If you feel like winging up with someone (successful combat tactics are most often team tactics and learning gets much easier and faster if you don't do it alone) give us a shout at http://www.fliegergeschwader.de/forum/
once you sorted out your internet.

    Re: Rookie reporting!

    Hi buddy...

My guess is that you can speak Vietnamese , German and obviously you have a good commandment of the English language too...That is massively impressive for a 20 year old...I'm 52 and have tried to speak other languages but failed so my hat goes off to you for that...I think its brilliant!

You'll find this community one of the most friendly and helpful in any gaming/simming community...We pride ourselves on that...so get stuck into the forums...ask as many questions as you like here and remember that even if you think it has been asked a million times you will be helping new players when you ask those questions as the answers will be seen by other new players too...

TeamSpeak is a big benefit to learning this sim...even if you don't feel the need to speak on it at the beginning...We try to encourage folks to use it speeds the learning process up when you speak with folks directly who have the knowledge...

What ever you do here....have fun...That's the main objective...and the learning process is fun too!

    ...Lew...

Welcome to the Community and Forums ddthienvuong ...~S~

Checkout the 'Beginners Guide'...for info and tips...It will save you a heap of time in getting up to scratch.....and its a really fun learning curve too...

    Beginners Guide

    Windows Management Guide

Also try youtube for startup procedures on all the aircraft...

I recommend getting in the online server as soon as you can take off if that's ultimately where you'd like to fly...I flew single player for 30 minutes before I took the plunge...The ATAG online server is a great environment to learn and there's not really any damage you can do in there as a new player.....It is also mission based just with real players trying to foil your objectives...If you are concerned then pick an airstrip furthest from the front line (there always is one or two on every map) and get some alt before you go hunting...You'll get tagged a lot but there are tricks you learn out of pure desperation in those first few weeks that you'll be able to use later...I know cos I still use the same tricks I learned then too because they work...and never underestimate the stall to get you out of a tight fix...That sometimes works too...

TeamSpeak is optional but you'll learn a whole lot faster with it even if you say very little once you are on the server...You are quite welcome to just listen if you feel more comfortable with that....so you don't actually need a mic either...Try it and see!

    Re: Rookie reporting!

    Hello again lads,

Thank you all for the spectacularly passionate welcome
I will try to make myself worthy of your camaraderie.

Fortunately my Internet is back for now, I'd like to ask for recommendations on when to visit TS, which rooms to see, who to meet, etc.

But first you are gonna have to excuse my Asian accent and atrocious German when we do meet voice-to-voice.

Lastly for the guy interested in the correct pronunciation of my name, Google Translate's hilarious Vietnamese voice-over got it right.

    Re: Rookie reporting!

as for TS....European evenings are the most populated...and you have to be in the channel that you fly...So if you are flying allied then that the channel you need to be in...It just stops folks listening in to the opposing channel for info...SPIES!!

    Re: Rookie reporting!

Hi Viktor........and another big welcome to the ATAG Forum and Servers. We are all passionate about WWII aviation here so you have definitely arrived in the right place. It seems to me that you already realise that CLoD is quite a demanding flight sim with a very steep learning curve but you have the right attitude to tackle that. So, as the chaps above have stated, 'get stuck in' and have some fun.

I urge you to read ATAG_Lewis' fantastic welcome post because, as he says, it will save you lots of time and frustration. We all refer back to it from time to time because it is so comprehensive. And it's true...you have arrived at about the friendliest flight sim community going, where everybody will be more than happy to say 'hello' and offer help...or just 'wing up' for a sortie.

I don't speak German but there are many here who do and most of them are frighteningly skilled pilots. I know that they will be very pleased to help you out. If you see me 'on line' feel free to say 'hello' and we can 'wing up' for a sortie or two. Good luck and have fun! Salute!

    Re: Rookie reporting!

    Welcome, Vu'o' ng,

That has to be one of the best first posts I've read. You've found a good place to be if you want to learn about this wonderful sim and the era it's set in.

I must say I like your attitude to activities such as this sim in that they should be done to acquire a skill set and knowledge able to be put to practical use in everyday life.

I see you have received ATAG_Lewis' welcome post, a brilliant resource for new pilots. I still refer to it now and then.
