Extreme lag on ATAG server 1, unplayable for many, unjoinable for some.

Title says it all.

For unknown reasons, ever since TF4.5 came out, there has been a constant issue with heavy lagging (rubberbanding aircraft) on the main ATAG server. At the time of this posting, the issue has reached a major peak, with aircraft seen warping distances of over 500m every 5~10 seconds. Some players on TS have claimed they are unable to even join in.

The severity of the problem appears to vary over time quite substantially. It has also been stated that server two does not seem to suffer from this issue in any noticeable way.


I hope this problem can be resolved soon.

Maybe you have to reduce the cloud quality. The currently running map has more clouds than most of the others ...

Seems like the more people are coming in the more it gets laggy.

Maybe downloading mission file from the server while joining is creating much stress as well as a lot of people flying in it.

First signs of lags at about 40+ people.

I took a look at the server performance monitor.
The network is way below 5% load.
The memony is well below 50%
The CPU over all is at 16%.
But one of the 8 cores seems to clip at 100% occasionally.

Hmm ok... Im not an expert but could the load be related to bandwith, amount of data going through?
I sense that the amount of connections and pinging is the culprit. There might be a ping caos going on wich doesn't show as load/data.
I have people warping over the place wich really do have clean connection.
I feel it is not the players fault nor an issue of their home connections.

Edit: Server is als responding noticable slow to any action (choosing side, joining, TAB radio menu)

I confirm the lag, its almost unplayable.. in a dogfight the plane infront of me turns and then he teleports away like 300m.

Last night was the same story PanTast.

With 70+ players previous version of the game (4.312) worked fine on ATAG more or less. On SOW it was fine more ore less. Now it is nearly impossible to fly.

We checked other server for such laggs. Warbirds. There were around 10 blue pilots and 2-3 red pilots. We noticed the same laggs but they happened way rare than on ATAG. And it seems that such laggs occur when somebody enters or exits the server and when ping jumps from 40 to 300 during short period of time. It is strange. Normally my ping is around 180-200 on whatever server. But today I saw my ping was 40!! on ATAG and warbirds. Then it jumps to 200. On ATAG TAB worked with the big delay.

I hope such info will help somehow. Should we form this in the bugtracker?

Data transfer.

Regarding the lag.
If I load 4.3 and monitor the data transfer it is like 25-30KB/s down say 6 up.

Loading 4.5 on Leadfarm this reduces by more than half, with an empty server.

Loading Atag main server with a full server best is around 12KB/s down, dropping to 2 and below at times.

Anyone confirm?

Hello ATAG_PanTast,

what kind of CPU you got inside the server, and at which clock frequency it is working?

I tried a lot of different HP Xeon server and ended up in a customized server based on a 4,4 GHZ i7, because the server instance didn't really scale that well over different cores
