About NewView
Originally, NewView was a great utility for IL-2 Sturmovik 1946; it was already widely used among sim pilots when IL-2 Sturmovik was in the "Forgotten Battles" era, and continued to be so for about ten years. When IL-2 Cliffs of Dover came out, many people were still using it in this new sim. It gives the virtual pilot huge freedom and innumerable possibilities in controlling his (camera) view in the cockpit. With this utility one is able to get far better experience of combat flight simulation than if he just uses the original view controls in IL-2.
A most popular use of NewView was to simulate the smooth view control by TrackIR, with the joystick hat switch. Therefore, with the widespead use of TrackIR in the past few years, the number of NewView users dropped substantially.
However, NewView is an extremely versitile uititly that has lots of different kinds of functions, the smooth view control being just one of them. For instance it has an extremely flexible function for user-defined fixed views, which is also very user-friendly. As another example, NewView can in fact be used in conjunction with TrackIR to enhance the experience thereof (certain forum members are familiar with such use). By the way, some people in the IL-2 community do not own TrackIR, especially newcomers, and there are also people who do not prefer TrackIR.
So NewView still has a lot of potential to be a great utility for us sim pilots, and that is why there are still quite some people who use it.
The Proposal
But as a 32-bit programme NewView is now no longer compatible with the latest Blitz verson of IL-2 Cliffs of Dover, which is 64-bit. So we contacted the author of NewView, Hruks, and asked him to kindly upgrade this beloved utility. We got a warm reply from him. He would like to do it!
According to Hruks, upgrading NewView for Blitz cannot be done without an API (for controlling the camera) from IL-2 Cliffs of Dover Blitz. Also, if Team Fusion can provide help, i.e. some cooperation, he can add a lot of interesting new features to NewView, including the displaying of cockpit instruments on smartphones.
To better understand the new possibilities, we would like to invite Hruks to talk here about his ideas on making NewView even better for IL-2.
Thank you Team Fusion for the continued work on Cliffs of Dover, and we the NewView users sincerely hope that there will be some cooperation between Hruks and your Team to make NewView a long-lasting great utility for the IL-2 series! :o)
