    OBS recording Studio - My god it's a pain in the backside :( :( :( :( Why.....!!!!!!?

I have on a few odd occasions actually managed to get this to work and the results are great for what I want but ultimately it's an exercise of and in frustration due to it not actually doing what it is supposed to

I use FRAPS. Load it, launch the game, hit record, I record the game.

I use SHADOWPLAY. Load it, launch the game, hit record, I record the game.

I use OBS. Load it, launch the game, hit record, I record the loading screen before the actual gameplay. I get all the sounds but not the in-game footage. It stays recording perfectly the mission launching screen before you hit the button "Fly".

I change the option to record "Display". launch the game, hit record, I record the loading screen before the actual gameplay. I get all the sounds but not the in-game footage. It stays recording perfectly the mission launching screen before you hit the button "Fly".

I change the option to record ""Gameplay". Launch the game, hit record, I record the loading screen before the actual gameplay. I get all the sounds but not the in-game footage. It stays recording perfectly the mission launching screen before you hit the button "Fly".

I pause the game, hit the Windows key, drop back to the desktop, I see multiple desktop screens in the recording window, I go back to the game hit record it stays recording perfectly the mission launching screen before you hit the button "Fly".

HOW THE **** DO YOU GET IT TO RECORD THE GAME FOOTAGE!!!!

    HELP, PLEASE!!!

    Cheers, MP

It is only able to do it when you are in the actual game/mission and not in the menu before you load up OBS.
Once server restarts or you quit a mission, you might have to do it again, means quit game and quit OBS
    Long story short steps:

    1. Load game, be in actual game and sit in the aircraft first before you open OBS.
    2. Open OBS > game capture > capture specific window > launcher 64
    3. show preview in OBS > switch to game > switch back to OBS to see if game is in preview

OBS was open before or 2nd mission/server rejoin and showing only menu

quit both game and OBS and try again

Re: OBS recording Studio - My god it's a pain in the backside :( :( :( :( Why.....!!!

    I use OBS Studio 20.1.3.

    My stream-flow is :
    1. open OBS
    2. Start the game.
    3. When in-game; hit the OBS 'start stream/recording' hot-key; but it should matter the order you use.

Sources - Don't use sources type "game capture" it didn't work well for me. I use sources type "display capture" set to capture the full native resolution of my main monitor (2560x1440) which works without issue. You may have to go into 'display capture -> filters & add a render delay filter if you have a video-syncing issue. For me, I had to delay the render capture by 500ms.

Audio - In the 'Mixer' panel, right-click on the cog-wheel for any of your audio devices & select 'advanced audio properties'. You will see a window with a list of audio devices that are setup for the stream/recording. make sure you have a 'desktop audio' device in the list ( I capture my headphone audio). On the right-side of that window, there are several check boxes under the 'tracks' heading. You can separate your audio recording into separate tracks for each audio. ie. make sure track 1 is ticked for the desktop audio, then perhaps track 2 for your microphone, track 3 for another audio input device etc. That way when you load the recording into your editing software you can selectively include or exclude your audio track(s) of choice. This feature alone, attracted me to OBS. If you have an audio-sync issue with ingame or microphone sounds, you can add a delay-filter to the audio type, or since audio tracks are separate, adjust the sync in post production.

HotKeys - I setup a hotkeys combo (shift-F8) to start & end the stream. These did not conflict with any of my in-game keys & worked OK for me.

I'd be happy to meet on TS or teamviewer & walk you through the rest of the setup.

    Hi Salmo.
I think I may have solved it but it was down to the native resolution. This was setup correctly (I am on a 1920x1200 monitor) but the output was set to rescale 1920x1080.

I have switched it and it seems to be working so I'll have a play and go from there. If it fails again I'll most likely take you up on your offer.

Personally I wish Shadowplay had a constant bitrate option, then the audio sync issues I have would be gone. I don't have time (if anyone was going to mention it) to convert 4-hours of footage via Handbrake from which I may only take 30-seconds of video.

I'll persevere for now with OBS.....but damn it's an exercise in frustration

I'm pretty much at your same spot Mistic...stay away from recording in-game tracks with OBS...it's another pain in the backdoor... ( I'm also collecting videos of the loading screen with the audio instead of the video as it should be...what a pain of a program!!! )

Have you tried the way I posted above?

I've got this from Karaya and worked for me on Win7

    For game capture:

Don't open OBS before you sit in the aircraft (no menu)

If you did, close both game and OBS!!

Then open game up first and once you sit in aircraft, you open OBS and use game capture like this:

    Zwischenablage04.jpg

    Zwischenablage01.jpg

At first it's black, switch a second into game, then back to OBS to confirm it in preview.

I use mp4 because mpv gets weird on my computer.
I use VBR variable bit rate because it needs less space for the file.
CBR constant bit rate is not bad either.
16000 is quite high but gives good quality.
I have an gtx 780 and it doesn't support high444p, so if you have troubles you might use high instead.
Make sure this is the "recording" tab, when you do recording with these settings.

    Zwischenablage02.jpg

This settings gives you full dynamic (full black) but might use more processing/space

    Zwischenablage03.jpg

    Hope this helps, good luck!

Display capture works very reliably for me, wether or not I start the preview window before starting the game, in the menu or in the cockpit. Just start and record away.

Game capture can be a PITA because of the way Cliffs is set up in multiple layers. I know of no other game that causes as many issues with OBS. Tibsun has already detailed the best way of getting game capture to work with Cliffs.

Btw, if you run the game as admin you also need to run OBS as admin or it won't work!

I have a lot of videos with the same 'black screen' with sound...I have twiddled with it...and eventually got it to work ok now...but I was tiddling and don't know exactly what I did...

There are videos on 'Black Screen OBS' if you check...Other folks have this issue...

Yes, I am also having this problem when recording my Ntrk files using OBS

Sometimes it records the footage ok other times I get sound but OBS is recording the loading screen, and sometimes I get sound but a black screen.

I currently have Ntrk files from the latest Highseas tour, which I am hoping to record using OBS as soon as I have time, so I will try the suggestions above and report back

Btw, also something to keep in mind:

Now with Blitz you have to set up a new game capture target because it's no longer launcher.exe but launcher64.exe!

Re: OBS recording Studio - My god it's a pain in the backside :( :( :( :( Why.....!!!

    Another side-note,
I've switched from recording in .mp4 format to .mkv for a few reasons:

    - mkv is much more robust than mp4. Should OBS crash during recording you can bin your .mp4 video file because it'll end up unreadable, .mkv on the other hand will still be readable.
    - theres a number of very handy tools for .mkv handling around, including for example mkvToolNix, which lets you do raw editing of video files. I use it for cutting out kill segments for use in guncam videos so I dont have to store the original file on my HDD for extended amounts of time.

The thing to keep in mind about .mkv though is that not all video editing programs support it. Sony's VEGAS for example cant open .mkv for reasons that are beyond me, probably just a case of Sony being a bunch of d#cks... However OBS itself has a very nice remux feature which lets you convert .mkv files into .mp4 which, depending on file size, doesnt take more than a few minutes and without any loss in image quality.
