just on 400km today for a pizza and a milkshake, seems like a perfectly rational thing to do.

    Installed some essential aftermarket kit.

It also doubles up as robust protection for the rear brake master cylinder, bonus.

    Re: Show Us Your Bike(s)

Great ride today, 400km of lovely dirt roads through northern Kwazulu natal.
Things got a bit pear shaped at the bottom of one of the passes, it just got progressively more eroded the lower we got to a point where I had gone to far down, and the 2m deep ruts/erosion trenches crossed my path, so laid the bike down to contemplate my mess. The bottom was in sight only maybe 30m away but no way to get there.
Had another bike behind me and stopped them before they got to my no exit point.
Had to cross the trench on the left of the pic and go down that side, manhadnling both bikes inch by inch while trying not to drop or slip into it.

Was a great day in Africa, up until this point where it became a tough hour or so in Africa, and 40DegC in the shade.

Anyway made it out all good. Knackered, need a whiskey or 3 and some sleep.

    Re: Show Us Your Bike(s)

2 weeks a go did a little day going on Wargrave-path
(sorry, no pics, enough of those on the internet, I went there for the personal experience)

Visited NL field of honor Grebbenberg, then UK/PL Airborne Cemetery Oosterbeek and CA commonwealth cemetery Groesbeek
Wanted to see DE Ysselstein and US Margraten cemeteries as well
(and a whole slew of others in the neighborhood, like Overloon, Sittard, etc, if people are interested, the south east of the Netherlands has most of them in 20-30 minutes ride between one another), but there wasn't enough daylight left
(I left pretty late in the day)
and I blew my 'fun money' on a speeding ticket, so I decided not to find a B&B and continue the next day, but visited a buddy near Goch in Germany for a cup of coffee and after that headed on home,

I was knackered when I finally came back, but that's because it was bloody hot that day (and I went out in my all-weather gear )

But all in all, left at 1 o'clock in the afternoon and came home at 11:30 in the evening, spent most of that time on the bike, and it still amazes me how comfortable the 1K is (for a sportsbike), compared to my 750

I'm now 18 months after purchase, and the odo is at 30000km, not bad, doing 22K+ in that time (though Covid helped since there wasn't much else to do besides work)

    I know the feeling bud.
Got my 790 in July, over 6K on the clock during the covid mess.
Have to remind myself to start my truck every now and then to ensure the battery is still charged and its running.

    Re: Show Us Your Bike(s)

Went for a spin last week, woke up early and just decided to go for brekky.
Ended up about 180Km up the coast for for a chow, then headed inland and back south
It was 30DegC by 0900 and I saw the temp gauge hit 43 later in the day.
Actually bought a bag of ice to stick under my T as I was really overheating and had flattened my camelbak twice already.
Here's part of the ride with some scenic bits and a small pass.

    Cool down

A small pass south of mvoti river, from the bottom to the top.

Theres a bike out of left field, nice Topgum.

Got just short of 15k on mine since i got it. Had an issue the other day with loose jubilee clamps on the cooling circuit. Anyway all sorted and service done a little early.
Fitted new bash plate last week as well.

    Re: Show Us Your Bike(s)

Well, can check another "Things to do" off my list

    Samco cooling hoses:

Was one of the things I figured I had to replace when buying a bike that, at that time, had ran 360 miles every year its pas life, but they turned out to be in good condition
So I could put it off and concentrate on other things, figured now was a good time for some peace of mind concerning 15 year old hoses and went ahead with it

    This one being my nemesis:

First off, the clamp screw was behind the clutch mechanism, so I had to cut the band off the old hose

Now I had a 25 cm hose that needed to go between 2 sleeves that were 10 cm apart
in HINDSIGHT, it was a better move to unbolt the top sleeve from the engine
    but
    A- Hindsight is 20/20
B- I did not have a replacement seal for it, even if I did have the presence of mind

I did get it into place, but not before literally spraining my middle finger, which I did not realize until riding home, wondering why braking hurt so much and finally home,
seeing my middle finger being as thick as my thumb

Also in the pic you see me blinker relay/fusebox, which I couldn't get back into place without pushing out the mounting rubbers (one visible before the alternator wiring)
So, since the Muhammad wouldn't come to the mountain, I had to bring the mountain to Muhammad
I had to take out the mounting bracket, attach the relay/fuse, then put the bracket back on the frame

The rest of the hoses were a lot less trouble, the ones behind the engine a little harder to reach and put/tighten the clamps on, but didn't take me hours like the aforementioned short hose
    [/url]

(BTW, also, earlier this year, got my calipers refurbished and replaced the discs with EBC Vee discs as seen in this pic: )

After running it until the fan switched on and waiting for it to cool down so I could top off the radiator, I also decided to connect the crankcase breather hose to the PAIR system and plug the connections on my airbox

So after all that work, this is what it shows for (not a lot )

    Good job Nightdare.
Some really nice looking lines there and it makes no difference if anyone can see them or not after reassembly and fairing is back on.
Makes a difference to 'you' though in peace of mind which is ever so more important.

I had 4 loose jubilee type clamps on the coolant circuit. Quite astonishing.
Have done many miles and bike bought new and never and issue and all of a sudden the little leak issues. Wasn't traumatic, just worrying at first till i realized it wasn't a terminal thing.

As I sad above the KTM folks said 4 loose clamps when i sent it in, under warranty, and they are good mates of mine.
So they sorted it out no issue of course, but I looked around and saw a few youtube vids with people having the same issue. With my bike and others. Basically the typical cheapy jubilee clamp vs others out there. Ktm fit the cheap rubbish
There was one video that pointed towards ditching the traditional jubilee clamp for something else, which i will certainly do. Seems to be a safer bet if for nothing else.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by the (good) condition of my old hoses though
The bike also runs a few degrees cooler now as well, probably because these things are stiffer than OEM, holding a higher pressure

As for not seeing much, I had aluminum velocity stacks in my old 750
In about 8 years these were installedd, I saw them twice, once replacing the K&N for an MWR filter, and the second time after my bike died its last death, pulling out the MWR to put up for sale

Had something similar happen on my old 750 when it was still under warranty, where the hose 'blew off' the thermostat sleeve.
not entirely, but enough to lose coolant leaving me in a cloud of smoke, scared the hell out of me Luckily it happened after I parked my bike and turned off the ignition

Turned out the hose clamp wasn't tightened enough/new hoses still had flex in them, my mechanic found all clamps to be need a good few turns more
When shortly afterwards he serviced another new K6 and found the clamps being loose as well, he sent out a memo to the importer to warn other dealers about this

    Re: Show Us Your Bike(s)

Finally after 2 years had my powercommander tuned

Of course, this didn't go without a fight

First thing, it's an older PC3 USB (well, at least that could be worse), but new Dyno software can't read those, so you have to update it
...this took 4 tries before, without explanation, it finally connected to the dyno

great, time to analyze the AF

Tuner gives her a go, gives her another go, jumps off, checks the cable, gives Another go
Switches the bike off, steps out off the cabin: "You're short at least 20 HP, at 10K rpm, all I get is air and your powercurve crashes down, I think your fuelpump is shot"

Tuner decided to check, got a jury rigged auxiliary pump hooked up, instead of 120hp:
    ...143hp without effort

"I might have a pump lying around somewhere, it's for a GSX-R, but,.."

Turned out he had one, but it was for a K6 750
So we had to check if it could fit, took out my pump and we were greeted by this:

Looks like I rode it through salt, it was only on the pump and mostly on the bracket (nothing in the tank itself), I always tank Shell V-Power, so I hesitated to believe it to be the fuel causing this corrosion
It at least explained what was going wrong, but not how that got there

Anyway, turned out that the pump and filter were identical, only the float mechanism differed, but the rest being identical, it was a case of swapping my 1000 float onto the 750 pump, bolt it back in and get cracking

SO, after 3 hours (instead of 1), I finally had my bike tuned to 152hp

She runs like a sowing machine,... though one capable of ripping my head off in top gear
