Its really impressive what you can still do with this old game.
I fly around in sp mode three or four times a year, just for nostalgia or when I want to have a cruise over some nice Pacific beaches.
Some audio taken from this...

Man..I see the humans running around and it adds so much to the sim and video making. Nice video. Thanks for sharing!

It really does. In BoX they have sentries walking around at the airbases and that extra bit of dynamism helps the whole thing feel a bit more true to life. I dont have much experience with DCS, but I always thought it was cool how you could exit the aircraft and control the pilot a bit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2Y4yMoALPA
The visual mods available for '46 aren't too shabby either, I have been seeing some vids from that sim lately that look quite stunning. I bought '46 for like $3 a while back and I am considering checking it out a bit after watching clips like these.
Just be prepared to download a ton of mods to get it looking like that.i remember when I was with the 352nd vfg. They created the channel map from scratch. 1-1 size and scale just like we have now with Clod. It took the ages to finish. Placing trees and buildings by hand. I remember having to update or having to download stuff almost daily. Maybe they have streamlined everything nowadays. Lots of planes and missions tho. Man I miss the Pacific!

I dont have much time in it (maybe it had something to do with track ir not working?), but I did notice that the number of aircraft in game was staggering. I still need to try the Heinkel Lerche VTOL, which looks like a blast
Probably the greatest WWII air combat sim of all time. Hooked up with Hyperlobby where you could chat with hundreds and link websites et. I remember seeing over 1000 people on it in it's hay day however that may have been Forgotten Battles Days 2004 - 2005. I think there is a screenshot of Hyperlobby somewhere showing 800 and something people in IL-2...Found it
