Lately i have been experiencing crashes in the game; whenever i take a german bomber and look through the bombsight the game instantly crashes. It has been doing this for the past 2 days.

I'm not a bomber guy, but have you tried deleting your cache?

This old bug..

Try NOT looking around once you switch to the bombardier position(leave view centered), then lean to sight.

Possible other fix - you do not use trackir or any other headtracking device. Maybe try installing opentrack (even though you won't be using it) and leaving it run (minimized is ok) when you play. check conf.ini for trackir=1:

Not sure if that will work, but worth a try.. this does not happen for players using headtracking.
