    Joining server with Teamspeak

Hi guys. After a long absence from flying with COD I have returned with Blitz installed and wish now to fly on line. I have been training for the last few weeks including full realism and I am ready to take the plunge. I have Teamspeak installed but I am unsure what to do next. I have logged onto TS and arrived at the pilot's lobby. What do I do now to get flying? Do I join via COD or TS? Do I need to have TS running in the background? The guides on this site are somewhat fragmented and what seems to be lacking is a step by step basic guide for those unfamiliar with online flying. Any advice would be welcome.

Vickers Wellington Mk1c. OJ-F P2517 'F for Freddie' of No.149 Squadron, star of 'Target for Tonight' directed by Harry Watt released in July 1941.

their Spitfire escort returned safely. One Wellington crashed on landing at Ford.

On the top of the forum page you have the following buttons:
2018-03-31 15_29_17-The Air Tactical Assault Group - Team Fusion - Cliffs of Dover - Opera.png

Choose Connect to TeamSpeak. TeamSpeak will start, and ask you to enter the password for the ATAG channel. Do that. Once inside, move your User to the desired section (e.g. allies, axis, etc). Leave TS running in the background.

Then on the top of the forum page, choose either Direct Connect to Server #1/#2.

    Hope it helps.

Thanks mate for a quick reply. I will try your advice and see how it goes.

    Re: Joining server with Teamspeak

Welcome to the ATAG Forum and (very soon, I hope!) the ATAG Server, too!

Thanks for the heads up on finding the “how to do it” procedure not exactly straightforward. I will confer with our Beginners Section creator, Lewis, to see if we can’t put something together in that regard. By the way, kudos on training yourself prior to venturing online. Most new players don’t bother with Teamspeak (or are unaware that TS even exists) and simply type into chat, “How do I start my airplane?”

Don’t be shy about introducing yourself as a new player on Teamspeak. Just choose an Allies or Axis channel that has the most players on it, wait for a pause in the conversation, and intro away. Be sure to assign a joystick button or handy keyboard key (in the Teamspeak settings menu) for push-to-talk. The default voice-activated mode tends to pick up your Darth Vader-like breathing, kids in the background, TV, and wife screeching “Are you playing that stupid video game again?” LOL

Hey, as Lewis will say in his Welcoming post - It’s all about the fun!

    Re: Joining server with Teamspeak

Hello there..glad to see you're taking the online plunge..it's where so much fun and new friends await you. To get started and answer your how to get started question quickly. Tbh it doesn't matter how you start the game once you get onto teamspeak. You can press the foum button ( that was pointed out) you can use the steam play button. You can also use your desktop icon.( Albeit it takes a little longer because you have to start the game.. navigate your way to Multiplayer server list and then click on the server you want) Using direct links like the one on the forum page or the one in the right hand box of teamspeak are the quickest direct route to the server. Once in TS..scroll down to Allied or Axis channel and join it. Once in there then the direct link to the server will show in teamspeak. You can then join, and you're good to go. I will advise that once you find a good way that works for you.. continue to do it the same Everytime (in the same order) That way if for some reason something doesn't work right, it's esier to troubleshoot on your end. Hope to see you in the skies soon! S!
    Cheers

Thanks chaps for your help. I will be logging on tonight to see how it goes. As I have found in the past COD has a steep learning curve so it is a case of practice, crash, practice, crash. Look at the videos and see where you went wrong. More practice and crashes. You do wonder if you will ever learn it all as the SIM is so unforgiving. I believe many will be put off by all the hard work and study as it is so cruel on noobies. But this is the challenge to master it I suppose.

Hey, Gibson.......I know you have no intention of doing so but Don't give up, will you! This sim is simply amazing once you've got half the hang of it (can anybody really say they've learnt it all?) I've been flying CLod for two years now and I still feel I have masses too learn.....especially about dog fighting....surviving...but as you rightly say, that challenge is why we come back. That and the fantastic community we have here.

I am away from home at the moment so can't fly but it's great to hear you are going on Team Speak tonight. TS opens up a whole new dimension for the game! I'll be back home and in the cockpit next Tuesday and I hope you will still be around. My wife is a Yorkshire lass from Ilkley so I know the Dales very well. What a county! Good luck for tonight. Salute! .

Thanks for your encouragement mate. I intend to give it a real go this time . I must admit that in the past I have been put off by difficulty in even getting on a server, starting engines, getting airborne and flying straight for five minutes not to mention running Teamspeak. In despair, probably like many others I have retreated back to single player.
    See you in the blue.

Don't worry Gibby we will get you up and going.. the engine management seems daunting at first but there are some set and forget engine settings that ATAG _ Lewis posted in his welcome thread that will still keep you competitive but ease the strain of trying to manage so many things at once. You should check them out. I will keep an eye out for you as well. In no time you will be able to spot enemy planes better..and just start to feel more comfortable in the server S! ( Also when you join TS..make sure your name in there matches your in game name so we can identify you) cheers buddy, you're in for an amazing ride!

Hi Ribbs. Joined the server last night but couldn't get mike to work. Ended up using chat to communicate with one or two guys. I then crashed on take off and then couldn't get back on server as it seemed to be full so not a good start really. I will have to see why I am not connecting in TS and try again. Everything seems an uphill climb at the moment.

Hi Gibby......as I said I'm away from home at the moment but return next Tuesday. I'd be glad to meet up on line and see if we can get to the bottom of a few problems........that's if Ribbs doesn't get to you first!

Might be better if he does because I am no computer expert but I can certainly help once you're in game and it'll be great fun! I think you could do with our good friend Lew's 'Welcome Post which I think you've missed out on. It is full of helpful info and the 'set and forget' engine settings that Ribbs mentioned. I use my own version of those and they really do work. Hopefully, Lew won't mind me 'taking his name in vain':

    Hi Gibby......

Before I make my world famous welcome post to you (below)...I'd just like to ask that if you like CLOD and BLITZ then its a good idea to leave a positive review (in any language) in the STEAM forum...That way we will get to see more of what the TFS have to offer in the future...It helps keep THE DREAM ALIVE!...

Also try youtube for startup procedures on all the aircraft...

I recommend getting in the online server as soon as you can take off if that's ultimately where you'd like to fly...I flew single player for 30 minutes before I took the plunge...The ATAG online server is a great environment to learn and there's not really any damage you can do in there as a new player.....It is also mission based just with real players trying to foil your objectives...If you are concerned then pick an airstrip furthest from the front line (there always is one or two on every map) and get some alt before you go hunting...You'll get tagged a lot but there are tricks you learn out of pure desperation in those first few weeks that you'll be able to use later...I know cos I still use the same tricks I learned then too because they work...and never underestimate the stall to get you out of a tight fix...That sometimes works too...

TeamSpeak is optional but you'll learn a whole lot faster with it even if you say very little once you are on the server...You are quite welcome to just listen if you feel more comfortable with that....so you don't actually need a mic either...Try it and see!

    Re: Joining server with Teamspeak

Thanks everybody for your help and encouragement. I have managed to get up in the blue and I can hear other chaps talking but I think I have a microphone / headphone balance problem as the game sound is drowning out conversations. I am working on that with my pc and game sound settings. Meanwhile is there an overlay available so I can see who is talking? I have overwolf running and it shows a small screen with names that are active on my desktop but not in the game? Any help on this would be welcome.
    Cheers Gibbo.

As for in game sound, turn it up full in the options menu, alt tab out and then adjust the volume through your sound mixer to the volume that suits you, there is also teamspeak overlay, a quick google will find it, there’s also a thread somewhere on it on the forum

Hi Gibby..sorry your first outing wasn't the best..rest assured we will get you sorted out. Sorry I'm away till probably Wednesday evening. Like was mentioned before..make sure in game sounds are all the way up( if not you won't here all the sound effects in game) then alt/tab out and go into your sound mixer( speaker icon in task bar. You will see the word mixer below it) click and adjust TS up..and your system volume down to an acceptable level. I think mine is around. As far as your microphone goes, what setup are you using? Headphones with a mic? Headphones with a desktop microphone? It helps us get u adjusted. Personally I feel headphones with a built in mic worked best..but I'm sure many people use different setups. If you are using desktop speakers and a desktop microphone..your microphone will pick up everything that's going on around you as well. Make sure you are using a button( push to talk, instead of voice activation) it's just better for everyone involved..haha

Ok Ribbs. I have a Hyper X headset with built in mike. Pretty decent gear so I am experimenting with settings as you and others advise. Seem to be getting there and flying online is better than yesterday so onward and upward as they say. Got shot up on the deck whilst warming up at Littlestone last night which was'nt nice and saw my first 109 a long way off over Dover.

Hallo Twin thanks for the message.
Downloaded TS notifier as the instructions but would not open when I clicked on the shortcut? Deleted and downloaded again same result? Any suggestions?

Hi Chaps. Everything went well tonight. Took off from Biggin Hill, and had a long stooge around Hell Fire Corner and back in one piece and a nice landing too. All coms worked well and chatted to a few guys nice and friendly.

    Welcome, Sgt Gibson!

Littlestone and Hawkinge are common strafing targets for blue pilots. Canterbury is as well. If you'd like a quiet take-off, your best bet is to start somewhere further up north; perhaps Eastchurch or Rochford.

Obviously, this depends on the map. General rule of thumb is that the further away from the enemy airfields, the quieter it will be.

    S!~

As for game " mic/TS - game audio - go to your Controls-Audio- turn down your in game sound to the level you deem approp.- of course.

This will greatly improve the TS "whats-heard" audio for you - but also reduce the amount of 'whats-that?"- over and over. No accounting for poor hearing- adjust controls
with in game sound dowm- and TS sound up - but only slighty. Good luck. Get em' .

Downloaded TS notifier as the instructions but would not open when I clicked on the shortcut? Deleted and downloaded again same result? Any suggestions?
    Cheers Gibson.
I must Run TSNotifier as ADMINISTRATOR. I also run TeamSpeak 3 that way, but I don't think it's really necessary.
