    Dreieckrechner DR3

    Ete6iQl.jpg

I'd just like to say thanks to the guys at TFS for including this in the Blitz release. Put it together a few days ago and am now enjoying learning how to use it. It's starting to prove quite useful when using the Lotfe 7. Cheers

Not me, but in JG4 there is some members who bought them original Dreiecksrechner on ebay in order to use them in Cliffs. Adds to the navigation and immersion I guess.

There is a DR3_Disk.zip file in your ...SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz\Printable Airfields folder.
The zip contain all layer what you should print out, and there is an assembly instructions too.

With the channel short distances I think it is rarely used. Dessert is another completely different thing tough. We need servers who manage wind conditions.

That's just one side of it - on the other side you can calculate the wind triangles, IAS/TAS at altitude and time/speed/distance stuff. Very useful for bombsights.

Yep, and this link can be open with Steam browser if Steam overlay is enabled. I have an original Hungarian version, but use this way the RD disk if I need
I assembled a simple page long time ago, designed for Steam Browser, you can add this as a startpage there, and everything will be there for one click distance.
Steam browser is good because the HOTAS still working even if the overlay is active, almost like it would be part of the game UI.

Anyway, if anyone need this link, feel free to use it:

This tool is interesting for bomber pilots - not for "Dover-Calais fighter jockeys".

The Flash version on STEAM browser.

1 - Set the actual IAS on speed scale (black) under OAT (temp) scale.
2 - Set the blue frame needle on plane altitude.
3 - Read TAS on speed scale (black) under blue frame needle.

I know for sure that fighter pilots used it. Maybe would be a good idea to integrate this kind of tools inside the game.

DR-3 is suitable for Lufwaffe planes, since is Metric system.

RAF/American planes need an Imperial system "Navigational Computor", or E6B.

I'm support this, it would be good to have some kind of 2D graphics like the map layer, but sadly we can not put easily into the game, and since Steam Browser works quite well, this is not priority for the coders atm.

E6B still commercially available, of course newer versions, but I doubt we could put the WW2 version into the game without paying a fat licence price...

I don't "feed" my computer with strange things like many, so STEAM overlay don't cause "collateral effects".

Of course, scales adapted for sub's, since they don't need calculate True Air Speed.

Tycho asked permission to use this disk layout in 2015, Of course I gave him. Good to see if others can find it useful too

Here is a link to a workable online e6b computer.

Set the pressure altitude (your indicated altitude with altimeter set to 1013 or 2992) under the external temperature scale, and read your TAS on the outer scale above the IAS on the inner scale.

For example if you fly at 220 mph, 15’000 ft and the air temp is -10, then if you put 15 (1) under -10 (2), you read your TAS 280 mph (4) above your IAS of 220 mph (3)...

    e6b.jpg

And for those usually flying red and occasionally fly blue in metric, all you need to do is convert your altitude from meters to feet and use the E6B as per above. You do not need to convert speed from km/h to mph as the unit is not important (the unit of what you read on the inner scale will be the same unit as the outer scale).
In order to do this conversion on the E6B proceed as follows:
Rotate the scale until you have "Meters" (5) opposite "FT" (6), then read the altitude in meters on the inner scale and in FT on the outer scale. For example you can immediately see that 5000 meters (7) corresponds to 16400 FT (8)
