Pre-warmed engine code now in testing

    Hello All

I know this has been an issue for all those who like to be able to jump in their aircraft and go...

One of our coders, (Thanks Xoriguer! ) has created a new pre-warmed option... I let him explain:

...there is an initial implementation of engine pre-warming on spawn, if an air group is marked as "Scramble" (in FMB or directly in the .mis), the aircraft will spawn with engines on and temperature set to nominal...
Note: This applies to Singleplayer too... so Campaigns can start with the pilot in a revetment or hanger, and he would not have to warm up his engine... and would not have the current problem of not being able to keep up with the AI.

We are currently testing this... and will be added to TF 4.5 when possible... (no time guarantee)

Xoriguer is also working on our overheat modeling... this was something left over from the engine revisions and which we want to implement for TF 5.0.

    Cheers

Shouldnt your coder be putting all of his/her time toward 5.0 and leave 4.5 in the past....move forward. People have been waiting years for this update. Just sayin!

It'll then continue to be a problem in 5.0... I don't think development of Tobruk has ground to a halt in order to solve this issue.

It is moving forward, bug fixes and correcting the issues the game has will always be something we work to accomplish. Tobruk is a new map and new planes/statics/ships, but the core game will always be getting fixed or updated.

Development on 5.0 is still moving forward, so don't worry.

This is for TF 5.0... the pre-warming has been something which has been on the list for 5.0 for a long time.

The base physics engine will be upgraded in many different ways for TF 5.0.

Re: Pre-warmed engine code now in testing

    My two cents worth:

As an aside, I noticed in Hawker Hurricane by Peter Jacobs a comment stating that the coolant system is controlled by a thermostat and coolant was not routed through the radiator until operating temperature was reached, which is the same as our liquid cooled auto engines. Is the sim coding detailed enough to implement that stage in the engine warming process? It would shorten the warm up time. Or, is that already in place?

Also, personally I think the hot or cold start should be a toggle key in settings (or maybe pre-mission set-up) rather than determined by the type of mission. I think most would choose hot start unless you wanted to practice with the engine start up sequence, and if you do that you probably want to go through the warm up process too.
