April 2018 on Axis v Allies

A collection of clips featuring highlights from my flights on server #1 during April 2018.

From Hurri bomber sorties to trying out the JU88 for the first time, and getting into plenty of fights in my trusty Spit, (and still coming off worst most of the time) , finishing off with an encounter with someone who you really wouldn't want to meet when you are flying a spitfire mid channel on your lonesome!!!

Hope you enjoy watching, and by the way, it wasn't me that flamed that 109 near the start, even though I was firing at it at the time (Wouldn't want to take the credit for someone else's kill

Good video and good to see outside perspective and aircraft all around the battle area. Encounter with Karaya = Death 99% of time.

    Nice video!

Didnt see your Spit until well after the first merge. There were a lot of small clouds from my perspective one of which must have hid you from my view. Was also almost out of 20mm with just 6 rounds per cannon, good fight though

A video of that flight engaging Wellingtons, a Blenheim right above the ships as well as 2 Spitfires (one of which was yours) is uploading as we speak.

    Nice video, Laser!

I see you had some formidable opponents there - Karaya, DRock, and Pattle to name but a few.

DRock is tenacious, is he not?

Thanks for your comments above chaps.

    Jaydog

I like to watch my sorties back with outside views and icons enabled (Thanks to the Track editor tool)

It's good to see the action from a different perspective, and it's an eye opener ( quite literally) to see how many contacts I had missed ingame that show up with the icons enabled.

    Karaya

I had been flying with ATAG_Knight before our little encounter, but I lost eyes on him and ended up flying back alone (Always a risk 'Fly alone, die alone' as they say)

As you said, good fight, I just wish I could've made it a bit harder for you

I will watch your video later. It is always interesting to see the action from your opponents point of view

    Groove

My kills are so rare that when I see a flight of juicy bombers such as those He111's I do tend to get target fixated.

Still, lesson learned, 'Watch out for the escort' (until the next time, when I will probably forget that advice)

    Sconsey

Yeah, I always seem to come up against the experienced vets (Are there any inexperienced players that fly blue?, doesn't seem like it to me!!)

Still, that's the way to become a better pilot I guess

As for Drock, I have lost count of the number of times these last couple of months when he and his G50 buddies have put holes in my spit, buzzing around like annoying wasps at a summer picnic, machine guns chattering away.

I get shot down more by G50's than 109's of late

When the Italian Stallions form up, we can be quite a nuisance i'm sure in our G.50s. I have been flying it a lot lately. You're right about blue. We have a lot of regulars. Personally I prefer blue because the aircraft are more challenging to fly and we are more often than not outnumbered which also is a plus in gaining experience

And just to prove a point, here is a vid I posted recently of a fight I had with 3 G50's, flown by Drock, Yotheguy and Pizzapilot.

I only spotted the 1 G50 to begin with, but as I tried to engage I soon found out there were more.

Someone who watched this vid suggested to me that when I found out I was outnumbered by G50's I should've closed my canopy, but the boost on and got the hell out of there, but hey, that wouldn't make such an interesting vid would it?

I have never flown blue, at least not on the main Axis v Allies server, apart from that one time trying out the JU88.

Didn't get to bomb anything though, just a take off, circuit and landing without blowing an engine in a JU88 was enough of an achievement for me!!

I have flown a 109 a few times on Lead Farm before. It is a challenging aeroplane to fly when you've been used to a Spit or Hurricane, but as I have found out to my cost, once one get's the hang of flying it, it's a very potent weapon

Laser, give blue side a try! I used to be a red main like you but then I started flying both sides, now I usually pick whatever side has fewer players online. The 109 is a real beast, you have to fly it differently than you would a Spit or Hurri (less turning, more climbing and diving, need to keep your speed up) but the cannons are incredible, you can take out a Spitty in a single burst and snapshots are much more effective than with the .303s.

The best part is if you learn to fly a 100 and then use those tactics in a Spitty you'll be unstoppable! not a guarantee

    Hi Flare,

I guess the main reason I chose to fly only red was because I am a Brit, so, well you know how it is, Spits and Hurri's are the good guys, 109's and G50's are the bad guys

Seriously though, I will probably fly the 109 again at some point, maybe even on Axis v Allies, but at the moment I am just trying to get better in combat in the spit and Hurri.

You've probably noticed by watching my vids that I am still not very good at this, and I only usually manage 1 kill a month whilst being shot down and killed myself many times, so I want to improve a bit on that before trying "The dark side"

If I am able to make your next ATAG monthly meeting, when I understand you will be flying blue this time, then that might be as good a time as any
