    Nav question

I have installed NDB's(freq300-304), Inner/Outer markers(freq380), SBA Hat Antenna(freq304) into a map in the FMB. Can anyone tell me how to change to any of these frequencies while flying. Please advise how to set this up.
    Thank you

    Re: Nav question

Look in Options > Controls > Aircraft > Keys tab

Set keys/buttons for commands relative to "change frequency" etc.

In CloD radio navigation don't work well like in IL-2:'46 4.10+, specially Inner/Outer marks.

Work, but in an "CloD way"...

    Thank you 1lokos!

I have keys mapped to increase/decrease primary and secondary radio navigation frequencies, but how do you know what is which channel?
Is this all there is? Do you have to guess?
I appreciate your info and help.

    Re: Nav question

I don't remember well, fiddle with this in 2011/2012 and gave up because is not complete.

The command "Radio Transceiver Frequency" has no use/or their function is not modeled...

but how do you know what is which channel?
Aircraft radios is not modeled in game, so you need confirm in "HUD" the frequency selected, that should be the one defined in mission.

Topics about, in practice radio navigation - beacons work OK, radio aids for landing, Lorenz blind landing system is not finished/tuned.

In this a practical mission for training:

I understand Lorenz not finished (No dots and dashes etc.) but how do you confirm freqs in HUD? I appreciate your time, help and knowledge.

This shows up in the secondary controls text.

Right now the SBA Hat does not seem to work, no signal is detectable. The inner and outer beacons work but must both be set to 380. The Lorenz instrument will pick up signals from NDBs but this is not useful.

I placed a NDB right behind the SBA Hat and I assigned them the same freq, 303 I believe.(the mission linked above) This way you are lined up on the runway following the ndb, when you are close enough the Lorenz signal will take over and act normally. The range is just way to short and narrow so I use the NDB breadcrumb approach to make a poor man's Lorenz. The Lorenz also only works in SP currently.

I do seem to receive a momentary tidbit of a signal from the Lorenz. The inner marker light illuminates from time to time, not so much on the outer. Oskar thanks for your learned information. I will endeavor to use secondary text to view these frequencies even though I usually try to fly without text of any sort. Wonderful help. Kudos to you!

    Re: Nav question

    this worked for me :
    - sec. nav. freq. set to 302 khz
    [Stationary]
    Static5 Stationary.Airfield.Radio_NDB_Beacon de 17042.29 13174.59 75.00 /radioFreq 280
    Static2 Stationary.Horch_830_B1 de 16836.88 14607.39 75.00
    Static0 Stationary.Environment.Maschinensatz_15_KW_GER1 de 16956.26 14828.85 110.00 /target AIChief_0
    Static1 Stationary.Airfield.SBA_hat_antena de 16749.70 14865.25 100.00 /target 16799.93 14598.05 100.35/radioFreq 302
    Static6 Stationary.Airfield.InnerMarker de 12430.17 21677.88 0.00 /radioFreq 380
    Static4 Stationary.Airfield.OuterMarker de 12635.65 21739.76 0.00 /radioFreq 380

i had set the 3rd value manually to line up the signal with german north south runway.

inner and outer marker make a green light flash when passing them.

setting the sec.nav.freq. to the ndb freq. will show distance to ndb on the vertical moving needle and disturb the horizontal(lets you know that you are in range of an ndb)

so always use different freq. for sba and ndb´s

    S!

ps. forgot - the map is MAP Land$Online_Cross_v_Roundel

    Re: Nav question

Down and dirty remake of beams mission. It takes advantage of Lorenz working better when flying over airfield first.

Mission starts out flying west, dive down to Oye and pass over SBA Hat and continue west. Both primary and sec nav should stay on 300, no need to change channels as SBA Hat and airfield NDB have been changed to 300.

You will know if the Lorenz is working as the horizontal needle will flicker up and down and the vertical needle will give a left/right indication. Steer towards the needle (needle left, steer left) I have made it to the tri-fields still in range but loose it when I turn around. I pick it back up around Calais Mark.

Just a mission to play with to see how far you can make the Lorenz work or how far you can go and come back and regain the signal.

Disregard the briefing as nothing was changed.

Edit: Change plane to a 110 and see the Lorenz gauge work. I imagine the same would work with the stuka.

    Re: Nav question

I flew Torric's mission in the 88 and also the 110 with the same results. If you are close enough to the beacon you can see activity on the Lorenz device. The problem is that you must be within 2km of the beacon to get any signal and the movements of the dial are not correct. I think you should be able to get a signal at 30 - 40 km. The vertical scale on the left side of the dial is a signal strength meter and should go up smoothly as you approach the base station if you stay lined up. You should be able to tell how far away you are from that dial. Also I have seen videos of real Lorenz dials being fed real signals and the directional dial moves in a more regular and useful way.

For these reasons you cannot use it for night landings because you need to be lined up much further that 2km from the runway. The outer beacon is 2km out from the end of the runway.

Change plane to a 110 and see the Lorenz gauge work. I imagine the same would work with the stuka.
Work, but in Stuka are not possible change frequency (is always set in 300).

You can change the secondary frequency which is what the Lorenz should use.

This is why I bread crumb the NDBs so they perform as make-shift Lorenz. By the time you get through the second Beams mission you can bomb Ramsgate and land back at Oye all in the middle of the night.

Lorenz signal should by picked at ~30 miles, why I say that in CloD this is not tuned, finished.
