PhysX seemed to be overloading my GTX1080 ti

GTX 1080 ti Overclockers: Consider unloading your GPU by changing your NVIDIA PhysX settings to Processor: CPU. Since doing this two days ago, I have been able to fly CLoD for hours without issues. Fan cooled temperatures top out at 68° when fan is at full speed per my custom fan curve with the following settings:

    Core Voltage: +75
    Power Limit: 117%
    Temp Limit: 84°
    Core Clock: +65
    Memory Clock: +300

For me, this is an aggressive overclock but is reported by many on the tech sites as quite reasonable. The smoothness of CLoD is significantly improved on my 4k big screen system using these settings.

    Overclock at your own risk!

Mine is stock..... and staying that way for the forseeable future.

I've run some heavey overclocks historically.. on aging systems... always tempting to see what i could do.... but.....

Always interesting to hear about others though

Run mine stock. It does everything I want it to without tempting me to play with it. I know what will happen if I do....shudder

Do you have difficulty spotting contacts on 4096 x 2160 resolution? How far away are you able to pick people up? How close is your face to the display?

I have long been tempted to up my resolution, but the lack of contact spotting ability is what has always held me back from doing so.

Have you seen this thread? I will be eternally grateful to DUI for posting this. I keep it handy in my Single Missions. It’s a great check to use whenever you make changes in your vid settings:

4K Resolution is 3840x2160. OLED screens are clearly superior over backlit LED's, but they are expensive.
I can see 14 of the 16 targets in the contact spotting test. (Post #6 above)
I do not pick up "dots" as far away as some other players, but I can clearly identify them as airplanes before some others can.
As an experienced pilot, I consider my display settings to be quite realistic. A WWII fighter is visible at about 3.5 miles.
My display measures 23 inches from the screen to the bridge of my nose. (Reading glasses required) This makes a 55" display life-sized with the normal field of view selected in the game. I can't see as much outside as a gaming setup allows, but it feels more like a real cockpit. It took me a while to get used to it...

My personal game-playing objective is maximum realism. I'm sure there is a scoring penalty for this, but it's simply my personal preference.

I disable mine. (period) Before disable it. I saw my aircraft (sometimes, when crash landing) tumble, rollover, jumping up and down on the grass, very un-physics like. I have tried and direct to workload to either the CPU or Graphic processor.

So you're saying you disabled Physx and don't run it at all, and you noticed your plane not jumping around anymore? No gopher holes?

Re: PhysX seemed to be overloading my GTX1080 ti

Uninstalling PhysX would certainly eliminate any bad effects. However, that may be "throwing the baby out with the bathwater", since you could no longer benefit from PhysX's desirable features. Personally, I encounter the extreme airfield "Bumps" so infrequently that I just live with it. To be honest, I always assumed that PhysX didn't work at all in old technology like CLoD. So much for assume...

If I start having problems with Mr. Gopher in the future, I'll uninstall it to see what happens.

I was under the impression the only 3rd party software that IL2 used was speedtree, no PhysX. Has TF changed this with their updates? If not I fear you guys are seeing some sort of placebo effect.

The gopher hole are still there when taxing. I think I did mentioned when crash landing, the aircraft took for ever to stop when hitting the ground. The aircraft keep on sliding like it on ice.
