    Reporting Thread for Server Test

    Hello All

    Thanks to everyone who participated.

We went through a series of stress tests... with the maximum number of players on the server... and then adding AI aircraft flights till the server crashed.

We will be analyzing the logfiles to determine where the problems were and what can possibly be improved.

Any comments or experiences are welcome here.

    Thanks

Re: Reporting Thread for Server Test

One question I have. Where would a person set his in game Network for fast cable?...LAN? Everything seemed fine with me by the way so I better leave it on LAN ..great to see a server filled like that

Re: Reporting Thread for Server Test

    Thanks very much

    Here's my 'report'
My Average ping was around 100ms

    Connected around 18:00 GMT
18:02 Took off from Shoreham in a Blenheim IV.Set out south, then west in order to attack enemy airfields on the Isle of Wight.
18:19 Time out, got kicked out of the server. Reconnect, stuck on Map, no briefing available. Disconnect.
18:22(?) Reconnected, took off from Ford.
18:35 Time out, got kicked out of the server. Reconnect, stuck on Map, no briefing available. Disconnect.
18:40 Reconnect. New map. Took off from Canterbury.
19:00 Time out, got kicked out of the server. Reconnect, stuck on Map, no briefing available. Disconnect.
19:03 Reconnect. Took off from Canterbury.
19:10 Time out, got kicked out of the server. Reconnect, stuck on Map, no briefing available. Disconnect.
19:13 Reconnect. Took off from Canterbury.
19:26 Time out, got kicked out of the server. Reconnect, stuck on Map, no briefing available. Disconnect. A few minutes before this occured, some very high pings for a lot of players in the list, like up to 27000ms. Mine still around 100ms.

Before each disconnect, I could see some stuttering when viewing around. Also before each disconnect, I could no longer see my teammate who was following me closely and in view before.
Edit: Basically my teammate (DD_Gypsy) had exactly the same experience where the disconnects/reconnects happened. His ping was around 40ms.
I am in the EU, he in the state of Texas.

Hope this helps... good show to see so many players join!
    Thanks!

Re: Reporting Thread for Server Test

I got over the island and got in a fight, there was no 'rubber-banding' or stutters or any problems like that, the fight was not lagging, gunnery was effective and predictable and at that time there were 100+ people and also AI bombers active. A couple of times when the server re-started there were 'no flags' and I had to exit and re-enter.

    Cheers!

Re: Reporting Thread for Server Test

I flew about like a bolt of lighting atop a rainbow at dusk with a nice sunset.

    I didnt see any weirdness.

No rubber banding, no sideways flying planes. all looks normal to me.

I did have one instance where i came in and the paint on my wings was not defined as it should be (as the thread i started about the crayon effect reticle where the panit is all flat and featureless) but within seconds... "POP" graphical status normal...

The paint on the plane to my left right after that looked also non defined.. for about 2 seconds more and then... "POP" all good.

Didn't see anything else that struck me as odd.

Wish i could have been on comms. You guys are funny as hell !

Re: Reporting Thread for Server Test

Big thanks to TFS for organising a really interesting evening. Thanks, too, for keeping us all so well informed as to what was happening or what the plan was, as the testing progressed. British Rail and a few other airlines would do well to follow your example!

I was flying for the whole test and the only time I was aware that anything untoward was happening was when the server itself crashed. At all other times.....joining the server, spawing in, take off, forming up......the server behaved as normal. I saw no lagging or rubber banding. Everything worked well until aircraft started flying sideways due to server crash.

To my mind, one of the biggest winners from the evening was Our Community itself. The call went out and they answered in their hundreds! (Well...give or take!) Salute All!

Re: Reporting Thread for Server Test

Except for two occasions of rubber-banding on the third map (first of the two hellfire corner) and of course the server crashes we experienced no issues.

Re: Reporting Thread for Server Test

    Thanks TFS .

The only issue I had was the time it took to load the game at my very first attempt .

I then deleted the Cache file and it was noticeably quicker to load on subsequent restarts .

I didn't see or notice any drops in frame rates , rubber banding or stutters but I wasn't able to participate for that many restarts .

I hope TFS can use the results of this test to fix/improve the current and future versions of the sim and was glad to take part if only for a relatively short time .

Re: Reporting Thread for Server Test

I was present the whole time and apart from the actual server crashes themselves noticed nothing untoward.

At one point we had 10+ in a circuit above Hawkinge with more on the ground or taxiing and it was smooth as silk for me.

First time I have played CLOD for over 8 months and I think it might have bitten me again, really enjoyed it. Keep up the good work TF

Re: Reporting Thread for Server Test

    My experinces here:
I think I was flying the last 3 or 4 restarts.
First when numbers reached ~100+, the server seemed timed out to client (first easy and relieable check if server responds is the "tab" radio menue), then out of nowhere the server seems to recatch when player leaves... and shortly time out again when players reconnects?
Looks to me like hardware limitations where cpu cores not matching players or so or too many pings and connections, but I have no glue in software or server hardware, so just a feeling.

Since TFS went to go down with player limits it seemed again to time out when a bunch tried to log in and spawn in at very short time period at a fresh server start. The server seemd to respond after a while with the "tab" radio menue, but it only opens it once, then it takes again a while until the server responds to me again.
It seems the server is trying to respond and freezes again or tries to respond to other players at the time. It seems like the server gets hiccups when the server reaches certain playernumbers or a lot of connections are build up in a short time.
TFS told us that the server is gone and they were going to restart, but I still experienced these hiccup responds from the server until the server has been forced and completely restarted.

I agree Tibsun.. hopefully they got valuable info out of this. It would have been nice if we could have had 1 test where the server wasn't slammed from the get go..but have the players filter in a little slower..not sure how that could have been done.. maybe have everyone in a TS channel and then break everyone up into like 5-6 sub channels. Then have them stagger in on command. Thanks TFS for your hard work and proactive approach with the community. It was a great turnout!

I was there during all the test.
Nothing noticable at all, until the server crashed.
