Gatwick drone incident looks to be over

I bet Gatwick Airport officials are wiping their brows right now.

I wonder if this was maliciously driven? And whether this sort of incident becomes more common?

There's a number of discussions and articles on other news sites about the dangers of drones to aircraft... would the risk be much higher than for bird-strike? I would imagine if the intent was to damage an aircraft then it would be. Pretty sad regardless to think that people are putting hundreds of lives in danger and thousands more disrupted.

In the US, they've clamped down quite a bit, but most people are ignorant of the rules. There's a good explanation here.

The security guys in that photo looked like they had some fancy equipment for tracking and frying.
