Yeah, DCS is beautifull and I want to show some of my screensgots too
Spoiler:
Intel Core i7 8700K 3.7Ghz, DDR4 32Gb 2666Mhz, Asus Prime Z370-A, ADATA XPG SX8200 240Gb (PCIe Gen3x4), RTX 2060 6Gb
Must admit I'm not a fan of the Normandy map,, got some here on a simple mission flying through a small rain storm at sunrise, the different weather and times make a big impact on the game eye candy wise

Looks great (Normandy?), I actually just enjoy flying around in this as it looks so beautiful. I do like Normandy simply because flying the Mustang over apartments and highways throws me out of the nostalgic thoughts of flying this amazing aircraft.
I am going to have to play with the weather now![]()

Here is a screenshot for the weather I was running at the time

Darn...I wish this thing was an all out WWII sim![]()
DCS at their best, a "screenshot simulator".![]()
DCS isn't perfect but I do think it's far more than a screenshot sim.
The mission editor is quite good (allowing for some really good singleplayer or Coop campaigns) and the flight models are unmatched by any other sim out there.
It's the AI, lack of units, and very poor DM that lets it down.

I wonder what it would take for a Piloted B17!
The P51 really is a joy to fly. If you check out Burning skies running the Caucasus map you can even use it in anger.![]()
In a recent email from DCS they said the Normandy map is going to get a big update. No date as yet but well and truly needed IMO. CloD has set a pretty high bar for any Channel maps.
"In May 2017, Urga Media released their DCS: Normandy 1944 map for DCS World. The map focused on the landing beaches of Normandy and points south to encompass the breakout period in June 1944. The entire map also includes portions of southern England and areas outside the landing and breakout area to the south at a lower level of detail. The total map size is 267 x 348 kilometers and includes many period specific buildings, bridges, vehicles, windmills, and other objects that populate the map. This has been the ideal map for World War II combat and even low-altitude helicopter flying.
Since the release and a large update to this map, Urga Media has been very busy to two primary items: The DCS: Syria map and another large, free, update to the Normandy map!
This free Normandy map will include the following:
Improved quality of ground textures (fields and urban areas).
Improved quality of the noise textures. This will be particularly evident at low altitudes.
Improved quality of the coastline, both in Normandy and along the English coast.
Processing of fields and city vector data to use new DCS World terrain technologies.
Improved quality of the rivers and lakes.
Improved quality of roads.
Increased the number of unique objects and scenes.
Optimization and improved the look of the trees and forests.
Optimization of map for virtual reality performance.
We have no planned release date at this time."
Working on some really cool deck crew animations too for an upcoming Nimitz Class carrier module that will be available for purchase:

DCS is becoming quite an attractive addition to any1s flight sim addiction. Even a few fairly well populated Aussie servers.
System specs:

I’m looking forward to that!
I sadly had to move my DCS folder from my SSD drive (500 Gigs) down to my 7200 rpm SATA hard drive (2 TB) because the folder had grown to 150 Gigs!DCS now takes a bit longer to load, but good things come to those who wait!

It is still a bit memory hungry Ive got 24 gigs but better with 32, and yes Snapper my folder is sitting at 121gig, there is certain folders to delete after update, similar to the cache in cliffs, it helps keep space down a bit, must admit its my go-to Sim now, especially the F18

loaded DCS, Have no planes except freebies,
read on web that steam have a summer sale around 25th june each year, was going to buy normandy map , ww2 assets pack, spitfire and P51. Is this all I need to play ww2 missions in multiplayer?
Yeah my 500gb SSD is getting pretty full between DCS, CloD, BoX, Naploeon Total War, and a couple of others. Terabyte SSDs have come down a lot in price so will upgrade to one of those soon rather than use a platter drive. Too used to my load times now. I recently built a new pc for my son and put an M2 SSD card in it...they are amazing how fast they boot up and load apps.

Looks like to my first modules that I buoght last year. Also I recommend purchase few offline campaigns, like "Operation Charnwood" (for P51 ground strikes) or "Bluenose bastards from Bodnie" (for P51 air battles), because it is not much action in multiplayer right now (or I do not know at wich time its going on).
Few shots from Warbirds of Prey server:

Top screenshots lads!
Love seeing these threads from both DCS and Cliffs!
That last screenshot Rostic of the 109 (F?) is fantastic, the detail is just lovable![]()
Bf109 K4 actually.
There is also the Fw 190 D9 and the recently released Fw190 A8.
On the Allied side there is the P51 D and the Spifire Mark IX. The P47 and the Me262 were supposed to be developed as well. Some time ago they launched a DCS WWII Backers Support (kinda like a Kickstarter) which included all the aircraft. Quite a few of us signed up for it. I have seen some screen shots of the P47 WIP but nothing of the 262.
The Jet age stuff tho is where DCS really shines and where the population base is. If u thought CloD was a big learning curve DCS is a lot more involved but, like CloD, well worth it.

Nice pic of us bombers, anyone know if ball turret gunner spent entire flight in turret? is the chin turret automatic or manned
I have reinstalled DCS but don't see any WW2 servers or Normandy maps running. It all seems to be jet stuff plus I only see about 60 odd servers up whereas last year there was much more. I'm not sure if I am getting all the servers available or some are being filtered out.

Hi Meyer, check version, should be 2.5.5.32533 Open beta,, WW2 Servers ,Storm of War ,Burning skys, Buddyspike Normandy, just did a rough count of 30 players spread across 2 serversI have reinstalled DCS but don't see any WW2 servers or Normandy maps running. Don't know if they spent entire flight in there but pretty sure the chin turret was manned. It was added as a measure to counter the Luftwaffe tactic of doing head on passes to wipe out the pilots. In DCS the B17s can be destroyed easily by a Fw or a 109. Would be good if they were a bit more robust. Maybe they will look at that in the update.

There's a whole 1 hour documentary on the History Channel (at least on the History Channel channel available here in Oz) on B-17 ball turret gunners - good level of tech detail and personal anecdotes. it was made in the 1990s from memory so featured interviews with a few ball gunners. Not sure many are still alive sadly. Might be available online with a bit of hunting down.
I think they entered the turret prior to going feat dry into Europe and stayed there until they went feet wet. Some of them were trapped and i seem to recall a couple of mentions (either in the doc or in 8th air force books) where the pilot had to make decisions about doing wheels up landings with ball gunners still trapped in the turrets. Memory may be playing tricks on me though so this may not have happened.
