    Why not Axis vs Allies?

    Everyday I try to get a flight in before work and now it's only the Danger Dogz server that has anyone in it.

    What's up with that?

    I don't mean to offend anyone, but there are external views enabled, map icons, dumb AI flying all over the place, etc.

    I tried it yesterday and had 12 Me-110's mindlessly following me around for 15 minutes.

    With external views on it's impossible to take seriously, and it's just not doing this sim justice.

    DD is what some folk want...that simple. Qwik action not involving any real effort to find it....Air Quake. Even ATAG's Axis v Allies can devolve into that on occasions but u gotta work a lot harder.
    Every1 wants action and when it's not peak hour on ATAG the action is slow to come by especially if u are the only one in there. However if u do go in there (AvA) u will often find others joining eventually, once they see that there is some1 in there already.

    It seems that newbies go to dangerdogz and all the other don't like to be the first in ATAG and just follow the newbies instead.
    If you guys really want more people on ATAG, you need to be the first on ATAG and stay there.
    I don't like going to dangerdogz because of big lag spikes from AI spawning aswell as lag resulting from weak server performance.

    We usually join ATAG and soon after other players start joining in. Can't see myself flying with them AI's, icons and outside views. And newbies thinking they will learn something when flying with those settings are wrong. As soon they join full real server they will be newbies again.

    Different strokes for different folks, as others have described here. We fully support the DD server, and the numbers don’t lie - they have struck on a formula for success. When flying the TFS Server for beta testing the current Blitz versions, we had icons enabled to best evaluate aircraft distances for various tests. When we did indulge in a bit of dogfighting I confess icons were a boon to my aging eyes to maintain Situational Awareness.

    The ATAG Server will remain “full switch”. The server itself is very robust, so we’re considering a few things to push it a bit and make the environment more interesting for everyone. Stay tuned!

    Hey Snapper
    For some people big maps are a no go with little players.
    Maybe it's possible to make smaller maps during the low player count hours?
    Would be cool to have a player count oriented server, once players are up, next map might be big. Not sure if this is possible to code.
    But if that's not possible, maybe we can pull out small maps only temporarily.

    EDIT: Or if people after 15 min is less than <20, server will restart with small map as an idea.

    I don't think it's just newbies that gravitate to servers like DD with icons and more AI.

    There are those that get as far as they can flying full real on ATAG and still cannot be competitive enough for it to be enjoyable so therefore they fly at a level that better suits their skill set and that in turn attracts other players.

    I suspect the lack of stats hasn't helped.

    I'm sporadic about flying as I am 7 months in to running a civil engineering consultancy. And its taking up a lot of my time. (Who'd have thought? )

    But when I do... it won't be with easysee text banners on the planes.

    Full real for me. All the way.

    (Other than when leadfarm was up... great for testing new convergences!)

    Lead Farm being missing from the server list is probably a further reason why DD has gained in popularity.

    I would often fly on LF to test convergences, or to shoot up some easier targets when I had been shot down 3 times in seemingly as many minutes on ATAG.

    Yes I agree that having stats back might well be a crowd puller.

    I gravitate towards the numbers. AI just isn’t for me, so I avoid them.

    Having my favourite toy (G50) right at the front lines is nice, too.

    DD is a great way to get into a quick dogfight. I’m not a fan of labels, icons, external views, so i just don’t use them for the most part.

    The skins are cool, too. I haven’t seen any skins that are offensive, so I don’t really see a negative, there.

    While the numbers are low, DD is a great place to build some skills.

    If we go big, and need to bomb something, ATAG is the place to be.



    Suggestions for ATAG’s server

    Rearm/refuel. This is talked about a lot with pilots. It gives you a little more purpose in the skies, with the added feeling that getting home safe will earn you something.

    Skins. This will allow squadrons to come up with their own.

    A couple of small maps, designed more towards DFing.

    Stats. I’m not a big fan, but I know others like watching their numbers.

    Plane availability. Us Italians are usually pushed back away from the front lines.

    Less maps in server, more waiting to rotate every few weeks.


    Last but not least, take Fall Rot out back and shoot it.



    Just to add. A lack of support for ATAG would collapse this community and sim. Having variety is a good thing. It’s just nice to see people still flying this sim.

    I share Drock's sentiments about DD for the good and the bad about it... You just have to go where the people are, and for some reason its DD right now.

    I do like the 'engine on at spawn-in' makes getting my beau back in the air a breeze!

    Both servers are great (and I still miss Leadfarm as a third possibility).

    It just depends on the time and circumstances. If I'm alone and have half an hour, DD is the place to go. Prewarmed Beau and right into action (and I never knew that external views are enabled there ).

    If I fly with a number of squad mates and have some hours we will try to roll the map on ATAG.

    Twc Campaign will give you plenty. AI is not dumb, stats enabled, missions for, Fb ,Bombers,Fighters, map rolling abilities no maps, indicator icons,Moving Convoys on the ground all targets heavily defended ......... just plain war 10 days left on this campaign.... password pathfinder

    I have been following the numbers with interest recently.

    You may get your wish with the DD server being offline currently and it has been off and on the past week. So they are either having issues with their box or moving onto new pastures like ACG have.

    I think all ATAG has to do is add a few more bits of AI when less than 10 in the server. Just give people SOMETHING to shoot at. Bombers, bring fighters, escorts defend and then you have some gameplay.

    As others have already stated in this thread people will go where the majority of other players are. It's not really anything to do with the realism settings. Albeit DD is great for a short period of playtime when you don't have hours to spare.

    Stats or no stats. Not sure they matter much either but speaking from experience players do like to look at them and will spend longer in the game trying to achieve their own personal targets.

    I haven't noticed any changes in behavior with them being off. Naughty people will still base suppress, 109's will still gang and head on at every opportunity.

    Please never add AI fighter. Every server got ai, please leave them out in ATAG.

    Lag spikes from AI spawning, could be, but I really do not see those at the moment.
    "Weak server performance"... Hm, server is a potent one, and again, I do not see them happening at the moment.
    Are these recent experiences? It used to be performing worse, I know, but at the moment, it should be not too bad, specifically if you're in Europe

    I have good ping and all but good ping isn't enough in the equation, I saw plenty of players parachuting/alt F2 stuck in air and a minute later explode in air (when they actually hit the ground) or lagging around.
    Maybe it's them players selves.
    I don't know what system you have and how servers exactly work.
    Have you tried "high performance" mode on server (cpu min power 100%), so cpu doesn't clock down?
    ATAG did some stuff to improve server performance, I don't know what else lead to good performance.
    Maybe ask ATAG what they did.
    Other than that, AI always introduce lag - especially when spawning, or Alt F2 yourself from crew/gunner (spawns an AI into your crew/gunner position again) makes your plane spike for all the other players.
    Also FLAK is AI, lots of FLAK more lag.

    Sure, it was off line today - after a restart I forgot to push that one button: "Start Watchdog" Ooops....

    There's been some maintenance in the past week, resulting in some downtime, but no real issues with the box though.

    Moving on? No way, as for DangerDogz needs, the thing is pretty much perfect.
    And as others are having fun with it, it's all good.

    We will keep the server running just like this, no plans to change anything at the moment ... (Could very well be we're just a bunch of old dogz that can't be bothered with learning new tricks... )

    Maybe tibsun can post some video of those occurrences, I cant say I've seen any weird goings on apart from the odd laggy player which has nothing to do with the server and the ping is Great!

    Thanks for that... Server is on 'High Performance'... And thanks for the suggestion to ask ATAG - will try and do so.
    (I am for sure still looking for a solution for one 'issue' we have on our server, one that does hinder performance every now and then, and that I've never experienced on ATAG)

    It's a good box at the moment, we also run BoX on it, as well as DCS - those are closed, so they do not see that much action as CloD does on it. But in our sessions of DCS and BoX, performance has always been better than when we have a player/client do the hosting.

    Are these lag/spikes recent ones?
