Pattle's first powered flight - at the controls.

    Hi All,

Was fortunate enough to have an introduction to flying flight this morning.

Took the controls of a Flight Design CTLS which is owned by the local air club at Port Macquarie, NSW Australia.

Best $99 I have spent in a while. Recommend it to anyone, and a cheap scenic flight too!

Aerial pic is where I live. My place in the bottom left. Great part of the world, and a great day for one's first time at the controls.

Now for the $7K to get a recreational pilots licence

Re: Pattle's first powered flight - at the controls.

Congratulations, Pat! That must have been huge fun! I have yet to take the controls of anything......Jen says I can't even control myself but Laurence thinks I should try and buy one of those trips in a Tiger Moth, like Lew' did. and I think he's right. Something I've got to work on.

I am currently in Newton on Trent in Bomber County, with Laurence, Dad and my two sisters, giving Dad a bit of a break and exploring some old haunts. We will be visiting Scampton, Coningsby, East Kirkby (Just Jane Lancaster) Petwood Hotel (Officer's Mess for 617 Squadron) Swinderby and of course, Lincoln.

We are tantalisingly close to ATAG_Vampire but are unlikely to be able to take him up on his and Ellen's kind offer of hospitality due to a very tight schedule and the fact I have my whole family in tow! However, Jen and I plan to return later this year for a Rag Tag and wive's reunion. I think Jen and Ellen will get on very well.

We are in Lincolnshire until next Thursday so no flying for me until then. I'm relying on you to hold back the Blue hourdes! Salute!

Great pics! Looks like you had a blast. I did the same in April of last year and I am getting close to my PPL now... I am taking the written test this coming Wednesday, all I have to do after that is schedule the practical test and checkride!

    Nice pics Pat

Seems like you had a great time.

    Lovely scenery there mate.

The best flight I have had is in a helicopter over the Grand Canyon which was awesome.

I have never taken the controls of an aircraft of any kind, which given my skills with sims is probably just as well.
I will leave that to the proper pilots

Nice one Pat, well done mate. Thanks for posting the pics.

Where you live looks really great and it is easy to see why you go kayaking.

$7K sounds not bad compared to the £10,000 to £16,000 that it can cost to get a PPL (Private Pilots Licence) in the U.K. Plus you get nice flying weather or more so than here in good old 'Blighty'.

    Congratulations!

I have had a couple flights in various types as a unlicensed learner pilot in temporary control, but would like to get some more stick time.

Unfortunately I think I am too old and too busy to have the time to get a pilot's license... even an ultralight rating.

Costs here are around $10,000 Canadian for Ultralight.

    Nice one Patt.

I was working on my PPL a few years ago but ran out of money.

    Good for you sir!

Must have been a lot of fun Pat.

Looked up Dunbogan on google maps and you live in what appears to be a great area with lots of national parks and such surrounding you.

Sweet area to fly in I'd imagine, and safer than where you spend most of your time patrolling.

It's a great place to live.

Will say that I was way better at spotting all the aircraft flying about, except one..., than the instructor.

He was just better at everything else

I've travelled quite a bit in my life.
But one other fantastic thing about this worldwide community is that it makes me aware of all the wonderful places that I never had a chance to visit yet.

I think I should start to save some travelling money for the time when I'm retired ...

Nice, they first flight is something special. I remember when I done a flying lesson, I told the instructor I knew the basics of how a plane works and I flew simulators so when we were two foot of the ground he let go of the controls and said right off you go, just amazing.
