    Re: How Its Going......

If you get attacked by one of those pesky 109s, don't fly straight relying on your gunner (if he's not having his tea break, then he just can't find his glasses ...).
Just try to fight back. You don't have speed and you have just one little pea shooter. The outcome is usually the same but it's way more fun

And, because the Blennie turms quite well at low speeds, once in a while you get lucky.
    And that's always a hoot

    Re: How Its Going......

Hey Zappay....good fun flying with you today on the Main Server. I watched you take out the radar at Cap Gris Nez! Good job! You then succeeded in nursing your poor, riddled Blenheim all the way back to Manston. And as you got lower and lower, I was helping by passing useful comments like: 'Throw everything out, Zappay.....thermos flasks.....chocolate bars....wakey,wakey pills...and the Elsan!' And you succeeded in making it back safe to coffee and doughnuts at Manston. Double Good Job!

I overheard Snargle talking tonight about how to nurse a Blennie back on one engine. He shuts the damaged engine down, feathers the prop and closes the RAD on that engine....to stop as much drag as possible. He then opens up the boost on the good engine (110%) and reduces the RAD to 50% on that engine. Then he checks his trim is as good as can be....and starts praying! I find it hard to believe that the one good engine would not overheat, working hard on only 50% Rad but Snargle is our recognised 'King of the Blennies' so I think it's well worth remembering! Keep up the good work.

I look forward to making your proper acquaintence when you have your mic. Salute!

Its been going quite well but you really have to concentrate at such low level and try and stay on course . Its really important to work out your timings for each waypoint too so you know when you should be on it and looking. also using the map a lot to give you clues as to where you are and if your still on track. but it works. see why they had separate navigators now lol .
Been practicing offline in a free flight mission I made .

I finally had my 1st successful sortie tonight online. Taking off from manston going for a radar station on the french coast . Low level around 200ft all the way. I had tried this run earier in the day but missed the radar and hit the camp next to it as i wasnt sure what i was looking for . then got 109ed .

But this time took off and Marlow joined me as esscort. low again all the way. missed on way in spun around and took the station out 2nd pass. took some flack to my port engine and it was vibrating terribly but still going. Marlow suggested i shut it down. as soon as i did all went smooth but couldn't hold altitude on 1 engine even at full power . so fired the port engine back up. rattled my way all the way back to manston , surprised it didnt vibrate its self to bits. But made it.
At one point on the way back Marlow suggested i throw everything out to lighten the load , Sandwiches, flask, toilet ............

DId a 2nd sortie later jumping on Kulea coat tails and follwing him in a his blemy . Not really sure where i was going just tagging along. He got the target which was a feul dump. I seen some more fuel tanks so bombed them and they went up lovley although they had no score for hitting them .

then i see Kulea getting attacked by a 109 in the distance. He had to bail. i slipped away into the nearest clouds to escape. made it home so that was 2 on the bonce. unfortanley at Kulea exspense ..

So slowley getting there. loving the low level radier bombing . and the blemy. was great to get my 1st success online. and make it home

Loving the community also. what great bunch you all are .

Deffo need some coms. will get it sorted.

    Very Nice video Flare .

    And thanks everyone.

The so called learning curve of this sim is more like a drop off a cliff lol. Its what makes it so great in my eyes. There's no hand holding , no idiot markers on the map or aircraft, no big arrows saying go this way . you have to work at it . Along with help from this lovely group of course.
Which when you do get a success sortie and make it home alive makes it a whole lot sweeter.
Certainly need patience with it but i guess it keeps the instant gratification crowd away and attract those that have a real interest in the whole history and everything .

Oh something I ment to ask.

On the grid reference for targets in briefings . For example BB20.3 , where are you getting the point from (.3) I cant see any reference on the map for the points.

    Cheers

It's a decimal point of the number.
You probably have to guess the position.
In this case more or less a third higher inside this square.

    Re: How Its Going......

That grid reference is the square divided up into nine sections starting at the lower left, so '.3' is the lower right section, '.5' is the centre and '.7' is the upper left.

Ah i get it. so its like 9 squares inside the main square. I knew it was divided up some how but theres just no visual reference.

So it looks like this then
    7 8 9
    4 5 6
    1 2 3

    Makes sense now thankyou

Yeah, sometimes people will call out grids as "Bravo 15, keypad 4" - basically a mini 3x3 grid inside each grid square.

    Re: How Its Going......

So its all starting to come together.

I installed the sidewinder fix file from here then followed the joystick sensitivity thread and have gone with Marlows settings of 0.25 0.25 0.75.
Already seems to have made some difference and feels much better.

Online done a few ops in the blemy but got back in the Hurri again. Still not had the 1st illusive online kill but last night manged to down something axis with 2 engines and then got in a dog fight with a FG getting hits on them and forcing both to bail. at the same time a 109 was buzzing our home bases and got me at least twice.

Then tonight a couple of blemy runs got 109ed . so back in the hurri. 1st sortie taxing out and hit those white markers at the end of the runway. rolled the hurri over. So ive learned they are not painted on the grass

2nd sortie was a spit buzzing me figured it was kulea . took off cruising along i see a black dot coming up behind me in the distance . immediately break to turn towards it . Then Kulea comes on chat " keeping you on you toes zappay" But at least i clocked him. Ive noticed im starting to spot things better.

A little later I spot flack below me so know someone is there . Eventurly spot a 109 trying to get behind me. we end up in a turning battle and i manage to keep eyes on him and out turn him and get some shots of and hit him causing him the vapor trail and he trys to go low and try and run . both getting lower and lower s turning all over the place getting slower and slower . then i got too slow and it stalled out wing droped and down i went in a flat spin .......... was so close lol. i nearly had him . Was a real buzz though and was in shock i had managed to stay on him and im starting to hit something lol . so that put a big smile on my face.

So its slowley coming. and im loving it
