    Interim Update for TF 5.0

    Hello All

Just to let everyone know who is wondering if TF dropped off the face of the earth... no, we are still here.

We are busy right now in putting together our first Beta for the Beta Testing group... it is taking longer than we expected for a number of reasons, mostly to due with the fact we are all doing this in our spare time and sometimes real life work and family demands reduce the available time we have for the game development.

But overall progress on TF 5.0 is going well... all the major aircraft have their 3D work completed, the map development is going well, the new music has been composed, new ships/vehicles are progressing rapidly, etc.

Of course the devil is in the details... as is the case in the example below where you see the new Macchi C.202 Series III model. (will also be a series VIII, with the option for versions of both series with high alt engines)

As you can see in the image, there are elements which need work... the prop blade damage is not implemented, the pilot is improperly positioned, grass still shows through the wing, (that is code work), etc. etc.

All of which, naturally, will be corrected as the work goes on.

But overall we are making good progress.

We should have a proper update out for the community in the next two weeks.

    Cheers

I always loved the clean lines of the Macchi and that model does it justice, a thoroughbred .
Cant wait untill it's time to fly over Africa.

The C.202 was a beautiful aerodynamic design... much lower drag coefficient than the 109s.

Despite having the same engine as the 109E-4/E-4B, it was much faster, hitting 595 kmh/370+ mph.

The problem with the aircraft, was just like a beautiful Italian car, it was much more expensive and time demanding to build.

It took approx. 20,000 hours to build a Macchi, compared to approx. 5000 hours for a 109. The 109's were designed to be cranked out like Volkswagens... the Macchis like Ferraris. That is one of the reasons only approx. 2000 copies were produced of the C.202/205.

And that applied to all Italian types... the Fiat G.55 was tested by the Luftwaffe in 1943 and the German pilots raved about how good the plane was. It could carry three 20mm cannon and two LMG's and still achieve 420+ mph... a 1943 109 with the two extra 20mm gunpods on the wings could do at best 390mph. And the G.55 was far more maneuverable at all speeds. The test pilots recommended it be license built as an ideal interceptor against the B-17's.... then the Luftwaffe manufacturing bureau looked at how much each aircraft would cost and shut down the idea.

I expect the Italian Stallion jockey's will be trading in their G 50 branded, and somewhat tighter undies (known about town at the G-Banger) and donning their new, much more 'roomier' 20.2 inch C model briefs, for that roomier, man about town look and feel.

That grass growing up through the wings is a problem that the BOX series has, also. It doesn't seem to bother anyone, as far as I can see. Not that I'm saying don't fix it, if you can, of course. Glad to see things progressing.

Actually scrub and desert grasses were present in much of the Libya/Egypt area covered by the map.
