Any Ideas? Connecting amplifier via Graphics Card.

I am ready to connect my PC to my Amplifier to enjoy HD Vision and surround sound.

I believe this might work by connecting HDMI cable from graphics card directly to amp HDMI port.

Anybody out there that's tried this successfully, or have any ideas?

This is not for movie purposes, but gaming.

I have used optical cable from the motherboard's (Realtek) HD digital output to a Sony Surround Amp for years. I elected to leave the Video Card Audio output disabled. I use the AMP to provide audio to the surround speakers, while using the motherboard output for ear buds for simultaneous comms.

I have been using an amp for the past month or so.

Optical cable from the Realteq output into the Amp.

But... I tried it first on a Yamaha amp - about 8 years old, and the signal just wasnt coming though. Maybe the DAC conversion was the issue?

Then picked up a cheap Denon amp and all's good

Back to your original question... I use a Sony AMP which permits HDMI inputs so I suspect it depends on your Amp as to compatibility. Why not try it?

I have an Onkyo Amp connected to LG via Arc.

I plugged my HDMI direct to the AMP HDMI port. E voila lovely picture, stereo sound. mmmf! Opened Nvidea Control Panel tweaked audio settings and beautiful surround sounds!!! Hip Hip Hooray!!
