Saturday, July 27, 2100 GMT on ATAG

ATAG Members will be launching a Luftwaffe assault on our main server, along with many other squadrons.

Anyone is welcome to join, either with us or against us. ATAG will be flying heavy bombers this time around, with some serious escorts.

No sign ups needed. No passwords.

Unfortunately, skins will be disabled until we figure out the issues we had last time that crashed the server.

    Good luck, and have fun.

If there's interest im happy to lead some -111s to bomb a milk factory.

If interested in giving it a go pls read this thread in particular the links in the first thread to get some background info on how to fly -111.

    Ezzie
For the potential -111 flyers in prep for the milk factory milk run (MFMR) here's some things to do to save time on the day

    (a) If you have 5 mins log onto ATAG#1 beforehand and set up you bomb load out - recommend 8 x 250s and high altitude fuze (the >1 km one from memory) - and save it for use on Sat/Sunday

    (b) We'll reduce fuel load to max AUW allowed on the day

    (c) Load up all your guns with your preferred ammo loadout - i think i use 1 tracer, 1 hart and 1 something else and repeat. Want lots of tracer to scare away the feeble reds and make them do #2s in their flying suits....

(ca) If really keen ensure you know how to go to the various aircraft positions and take control of the gun in each - i have it set up using alt-1, alt-2, alt-3 etc (not sure if this is the default - cant remember) and set up the mouse to control the gun etc. To go back to the pilot and return control of the gun to the AI use Alt-F2 (but be very careful - if you do this in the pilot seat you will be outside the aircraft before you kn ow it and the aircraft will then crash).

    (d) Ensure you have a key set for undercarriage toggle - there's no lever to use in the cockpit as far as i can tell so have to have a key assigned

    (e) Ensure you have a key set for arms bombs

    (f) Ensure you have a key set for toggle bomb bay doors

    (g) Ensure you have a key set for toggle autopilot (or something like that) so you can step thru course mode and mode 22 - most of the time when flying the -111 i'm in either course mode or mode 22

    (h) Ensure you know what key drops you bombs - I'm planning on using my bombsight and others can manually drop when my bombs go. But if there are others who know how to use the bombsight we could have several kettes each with a bomb aimer in the lead

    (i) Write down these numbers to use on the day: oil/water radiators (100% open), take off speed 140-150 km/hr (no flaps required), climb speed 240 km/hr @2300rpm /1.3 ata (just - i drop it down to 1.2 and then nudge it up until it ticks over to 1.3). Keeps oil / water temps below 95 degrees. Landing speed ~ 140 km/hr - watch floating (aircraft floats a lot and doesnt want to land).

    (j) Ensure flying suit leathers and riding boots are oiled, shiny and clean. Cheroots (what are these anyway?) in cigarette case if required.

    (k) And know how to jump into someone else's aircraft in the highly unlikely event a red fighter shoots you down

And if you have the time do some sorties beforehand to get the feel for the aircraft - its really easy to fly using the numbers above and while the bombsight takes a bit of practice if we do the bomb aimer lead thing you wont need to know how to use it (it is very satisfying though when the bombs hit what you were aiming at more or less).

Happy to take questions on the above etc. See you on the weekend!

    Ezzie

By default the mouse moves the gun left and right when dragged left and right (so far so good), but it moves the gun up when mouse is pulled towards me, and down when mouse is pushed away from me. A little bit like a joystick where you pull to climb and push to dive.

However inverting the up-down movements feels more natural to me. So the gun sight would move in the same motion as the mouse cursor usually does.

So here's my question: Does anyone know how to reverse the mouse up-down movement in the gun turret?

Someone (sorry can't remember who) told me on TeamSpeak one day that this was doable by changing a parameter in the ConfUser.ini file. This was in the middle of a dogfight, so I thought I'd have a look at it later. Never managed to find out which parameter to tweak...

    EDIT:
OK found it. In the file Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\conf.ini under [rts_mouse] change Invert=0 to Invert=1.
That's it. Simple (when we know it).
Also increasing the sensitivity from the default 1.0 to say 1.5 increases the mouse responsiveness.

    Cool Re: ATAG ASSAULT No.2

    S! All
For all you pilots that find time differences difficult.
This post is an attempt to get you all attending the event at the same time.

Time in the UK is currently BST(GMT+1) so it's a 10pm Saturday start in the UK for this event.

    Australia
The current time difference between London and Sydney = +9hrs so a 7am Sunday start there.

The current time difference between London and Perth = +7hrs so 5am Sunday start there.

    USA

The current time difference between London and EST = -5hrs so a 5pm Saturday start there.

The current time difference between London and CST = -6hrs so a 4pm Saturday start there.

The current time difference between London and Mountain time zone = -7hrs so a 3pm Saturday start there.

The current time difference between London and PST = -8hrs so a 2pm start there.

Hope this helps the bewildered and confused among our community

    Ok thanks Rostic.

Also forgot to mention that players need to be able to manually change propellor pitch up and down.

    Attention -111 flyers!!!

For those on TS - pls report to the Axis Bomber Schwarm #1 channel at 5-10 minutes before the start of the mission. Mission brief will commence at 5 mins to go so that we can spawn in and get going as soon as the map rotates.

Non TS users - ensure you watch the chat for bomber raid details once the map is up and make sure it is set to friendly chat only if you reply.

Jager leaders - if keen to escort and doing barrier CAP and sweeps etc pls jump in to the mission brief at 5 mins to go.

    Ezzie

    Anyone making a JU-88 raid? I've never flown a 111, but I'm relatively comfortable in the 88.

He111 just like Ju88 but much more comfortable while flying and much more slower.

Hey Kendy - i think there might be a thought to do an -88 raid after the -111 raid (not 100% sure though).

-111 is easy to fly but if you'd refer to fly the -88 i'm still happy if you want to join the -111 raid. We will be much slower than you though....
