Re: TFS 5.0 RM Gorizia - WIP

Not all the flak emplacements are present in this model... so yes it will be a challenge to attack.

Anyone who thinks they can fly a single aircraft, at low level, straight at a large warship such as this, will have a nasty surprise.

Trying to skip bomb a large warship is not a good way to extend one's lifetime.

Taking out a major warship such as this takes teamwork and multiple aircraft.

For example, there were approx. 15 Swordfish involved in each of the two attacks which crippled the Bismarck. The attacks were coordinated with aircraft approaching from all directions. Most of the Swordfish let their torpedoes go at the recommended distance of 1000 yards, (914 meters) a couple at twice that distance. There was heavy overcast, and the Swordfish, (which had radar) were able to drop out of the overcast, make their attacks and then climb back into it to avoid the AAA. (yes we hope to have full overcast cloud systems for TF 5.0)

This was in an environment of either complete dark, (for the first attack) or deep twilight. (for the second attack) The Swordfish were launched and landed in either near or complete darkness... something no other carrier borne aircraft would attempt or be normally capable of... the Swordfish had an incredibly low stall speed and easy handling which allowed this.

When the Prince of Wales and Repulse were sunk by the Japanese, they were attacked by an estimated 88 aircraft, 34 torpedo aircraft and 51 level bombers in a number of waves and using 'hammer and anvil' multi directional attacks. The Japanese aircraft were Bettys and Nells, medium bombers, of which half were modified to carry torpedoes. (similar to the modified He-111H-6 and modified Wellington IC's which will carry torpedoes for TF 5.0) The Japanese attacks were spread out over 2 1/4 hours. The effective damage was mostly done by torpedoes in coordinated attacks launched at around 1000 meters. After the Prince of Wales was crippled and slowed, it was hit by some level bombs. Approx. 49 torpedoes were launched, an estimated 6-8 hits. The Japanese crews on these aircraft were among the most highly trained of any airforce in the world in these types of attacks.

minnenshoooten booten in Isle of Wright campaign can shoot the sunglasses off a gnat flying at 10000ft, full real i dont think so. read on wiki that the berlin flac towers fired thousands of rounds for each aircraft downed and it was a big drag on german war production

Loitering over a AAA equipped ship is never a good idea... especially in range of light flak.... which at 10,000 ft is the case.

However, we will be looking at flak accuracy revisions for TF 5.0.

Intimidating vessel! Good that it sails to war for the blue side.

Hi guys, I just wanted to make a quick correction here. The ship you are modeling is actually Gorizia's sister ship, Pola. Theyre both Zara class, so theyre very similar, but that superstructure is uniquely only featured on Pola as seen here:

For comparison, here is a profile view of gorizia showing her superstructure and the noticeable gap between the front fume stack:

Thanks guys, keep up the great work!

Thanks for the info... we will re-name the ship to POLA for now... will redo the superstructure later to create the GORIZIA.

We would like to have the GORIZIA as it survived the war... whereas all the other three Cruisers of the class were destroyed by HMS WARSPITE and other British warships during the battle of Cape Matapan.

Looks great chaps, a beautiful ship!

Just one question - if TF are going to create at least a reasonable sub-section of the Italian navy, plus one assumes the British and German navies also, just when can we expect to see CLoD v 5? We're not talking about years are we??

Would be nice to have our cake and eat it too - i.e. dozens of perfectly created battleships, vehicles, aircraft etc etc in version 5, all released next week!

    I'll dream on!

We already have a large part of the work done. You'll see some more updates in the next month or two... these will not slow down the release.

We have already shown a lot of these ships in the updates if you look.

At this moment what is planned:

    British

    HMS Warspite: Battleship
    HMS Ramillies: Battleship
    HMS Ajax: Light Cruiser
    HMS Cossack: Destroyer
    Motor Torpedo Boat

May also see HMS Repulse, Battlecruiser depending on the availability of modelers

    Italian

    RM Pola/Gorizia: Heavy Cruiser
    RM Spica: Destroyer Escort/Patrol

Hoping we will also see RM San Giorgio, Armored Cruiser/Harbour defense ship

    German

    KM Admiral Scheer: Pocket Battleship
    KM Prinz Eugen: Heavy Cruiser
    KM Nurnberg: Light Cruiser
    Type 1936 Destroyer
    Schnellboote
    Type VIIC U-Boat

Ramp Rat, I just want to appreciate that you made your account way back in 2014 and still have come back to make your first post (and a very good informative one at that) nearly five years later.

Thanks Buzzsaw, that's amazing, never knew there was all that coming our way!

By the way, any new merchant ships? Would be good to have a bit more variety in convoys besides those tankers we already have.

Yes, there will be three new Merchant ships... one large freighter, one medium size, one small coastal.

Thanks, that's excellent - will be good to have some realistic convoys, both Mediterranean and Battle of Britain.
