Love the skins but some of them still look like they have been dipped in milk. When viewed close to they seem to be sharing the distance haze which they shouldn't have when seen close to.

Don't want to upset anyone but for me there is often an issue in CLOD with some kind of overlay on the planes when seen close to.

Not dipped in milk/ showing 'distance haze - white overlay' on skin when seen close to:

    109 in the desert:

More examples of 'white overlay' on aircraft in this old thread:

I really, really love the landscape now!
The shoreline is so nice, I think many pilots are tempted to bail out for a swim.

The Martlet will be so much fun to fly, although I doubt I will get that close to a 109 very often with it.

I don't think I agree with the 'dipped in milk' criticism - in bright sunlight (even in the UK let alone in North Africa) colours do look slightly washed out on top of any weathering-related fading. Shadows tend to be very dark, and sunlit areas can look bleached. I think the aircraft in those screenshots look excellent.

    Hello Red

Freshly polished and waxed, highly pampered warbirds will not look the same as heavily used combat aircraft.

We have in the past provided versions with a highly reflective surface and have had players complain they look too pristine.

    Nice screenshots Setback!
Especially love the duel Martlet formation shot! Might have to enter that one in your next local photo comp

I will add that I am quite loving the lighting currently. It does reflect period, in service warbirds quite well.

    Yes, love the lighting too.

Shiny pristine warbirds at modern airshows have their appeal - but look nothing like everyday combat aircraft in WW2. Shiny aircraft would also reflect sunlight strongly and compromise camouflage.

Modern warbirds are pampered in a way the WW2 ones weren't.

Maybe a graphics option for TF5 - 'Airshow Finish' or 'WW2 Combat Veteran Finish'!

Have to agree to the milk arguement, i noticed it earlier on the C202,

That picture of the downed 109 while having less contrast on the blacks, has visible scratches on the cross (where the contrast is most noticable) while the skins ingame dont have them, I assume that should be done via weathering control anyways.
The 109 skin ingame on the other hand has a uniformly low contrast.

Re: TFS 5.0 Bf109 E-7 Trop and Martlett WIP screenshots

    Before any more speculation....
I should have stated from the start that all skins are WiP, and are not finalized yet.
I'm not saying they will be lighter or darker or changed in any specific way, just that they are not necessarily final.
The Bf109E will almost certainly look different in some way, and I will be looking into adjusting the colours on the Martlet (which were just a guesstimate of what might work on the desert map, and have as yet not even been changed by me at all).

Thanks for everyone's comments, attention, and feedback!

    Cheers

To be honest I love the faded look.. It seems more natural for the type of environment we are headed to. Keep up the great work MS!

Re: TFS 5.0 Bf109 E-7 Trop and Martlett WIP screenshots

    Some clarification.

The dust/dirt is added to a skin (or one of the skin files), it is not an inherent part of it, or an issue with the game engine. Without any dirt the planes will look like pristine glossy plastic.

Please not this glossy, greasy look as if the whole plane was just rubbed off with a bacon rind that you can see elsewhere.
Any good scale modeller spends hours and hours to avoid exactly this.

Currently you can adjust the aircraft weathering in options, I guess that is still the case in 5.0.
