As per the title, this mission ran fine previous to 4.56 and also 4.57, now it crashes every time.

Thanks for the bug report. Also here this thunder mission crashes in versions 4.55, 4.56 and 4.57 actually tested now. NB also 4.55 crashes. Can you confirm that this thunder mission crashes on your copy of 4.55? Unfortunately I don't have any versions earlier than 4.55 to check.
ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA507NV, AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS CPU, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM, 16 GB DDR5 RAM, 512 GB SSD, Windows 11 Home 23H2, VPC MongoosT-50 Throttle, VKB Gladiator Pro, MFG Crosswind, Wheel Stand Pro, EIZO CS240, Track-IR 5
Crashes under 4.55 here too. No earlier versions that I can test on, sorry.

TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pro rudder pedals | TrackIR 5 | TeamSpeak 3.3.2 | TS Notifier 1.6.0h
Works fine under any version (4.55, 4.56, 4.57) if you uncheck "extended clouds" in video options.
But I guess this takes away all the interest of this particular mission...

Same here.
FWIW: Changing Base Height to 2000 fixes the crash-ing. Any higher value will make it crash.
Now if it does not crash, weird things do happen: When looking straight ahead while heading West, the sky is clear. When looking left to like 10 o'clock, the clouds appear.
Looking further left, they may disappear again. Also looking up or down while looking forward will also make them appear ... and disappear when looking straight forward in the horizontal plane...
It's weird, way too weird for me to spend any more of my time on ...
Bonkin has a great post or two about the weather over on the ACG forums. When you place weather fronts and manipulate them inside the .mis file, if you aren't careful in the FMB it will crash everytime.
Clouds/weather is being looked at anyways for 5.0.
I like the new signature block picture SM.
I can hear the theme tune from 'Laurence of Arabia' in the background.

Well, those follow Oleg Madox advise back in time: "Weather object, use at your risk".
I think paying for peoples input rather makes sence.
One of the reasons I am still in business is that I dont work for free. (Except for that guy who didnt pay me that I took to court who then imediately disolved his company.... he as it turns out I did work for for free... But only him... )
That said im not part of TFS and maybe they feel massively chartibale still... beyond everything we have had so far for nothing.... (Thanks Guys!)
but... if it were me?
I'd be asking you to pony up a few quid.

The changes to clouds/weather which will be in TF 5.0 will update Blitz as well.
I am not going to pay money to patch/fix game content I already purchased 7 years ago, I don't care who's doing the fixing.
Pay for new content creations (maps, flyables, etc.,)? Yes, maybe if I think it's worth it. But not for stuff that was part of the box I bought. I'm not forcing anyone in TFS to keep doing this. If they don't want to be doing it, they should stop. I'm not sure where this hard-done-by image comes from. Every other modding team I can think about from all the games I've played in my 30+ years of gaming did it because they wanted to and they enjoyed doing it and they wanted people to share in what they did. I think I can honestly say TF 5.0 is the first 'mod' I've been told I'd need to pay money for. Every other one was either a free mod or if they wanted money they took their mod and made it into a stand alone product separate from the original game that you could buy or not and it didn't render my purchased game irrelevant. If they're in this out of the goodness of their hearts to help me and my friends play a game - then I'd say please don't. We're not worth it.
If there are patches/fixes in paid-for TF 5.0 for content that was part of the original release, I don't care how wonderful it turns out. I'll happily carry on with DCS. If fixes relevant to the base game are released separately for free, I'll check it out and if it improves the product and makes me interested to see what I can do with a new theatre, I might buy it.
Edit: Buzzsaw posted while I was writing. Thank you Buzzsaw.
