ATAG ASSAULT No.5: Turning the Tide

ATAG ASSAULT No.5: Turning the Tide

Saturday, November 16, 2100 GMT on ATAG. https://www.thetimezoneconverter.com/

    Map: The War, Untitled https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.c...ad.php?t=27680

ATAG Members will be launching an assault on our main server, along with many other squadrons. Our fifth mission will be carried out by the RAF. All aircraft will be available, but our focus will be on the Spitfires. Bombers will be operating with many escorts, better coordinated by RAF Ground Controller.

RAF Fighter Squadron Leaders please join Ground Controller channel on ATAG TeamSpeak to set up TS Whisper channel 15 minutes early. This will allow Ground Controller to better coordinate Fighter Escorts, Bombers, enemy positions, and overall defenses. Also, Flight Leaders will be briefed on operation tactics and targets at that time.

Anyone are welcome to join, either with us or against us. The map will be chosen and rotated right before mission begins. No sign ups needed. No passwords.

Unfortunately, skins will be disabled in order to better stabilized the server with big numbers.

    Good luck, and have fun.

Re: ATAG ASSAULT No.5: Turning the Tide

Looks as if most of us will be in bombers.

Just a question: I have the impression that TAB 7 1 since some time detects any aircraft, even those on the ground. Is this true?
I think i remember that it once could not find planes below a certain altitude, which is historically correct and made survival rates for bombers much better.

Not the most exciting, but F12 was the last key I was thinking of mid dogfight

Excellent work Drock and team! Was an absolutely fantastic mission today!
And cheers to Snapper and team, we actually almost make a good fighter escort group
Jeepy helped hold the fort together as well

Good flying with all! Have a good night!

Re: ATAG ASSAULT No.5: Turning the Tide

Thanks for the turnout, All. Lots of fun as always.

Our tech department is looking hard in to what causes the crashes. Obviously, numbers may have to be reduced a little more. We hit the 94 cap pretty fast.

Also, thanks to all the people helping behind the scenes.

I took a picture of the control room just after that server crash. It was pretty cool tracking as many pilots as possible to create a somewhat real time picture of what's going on across the map.

    Stressful, too.lol

Just after you left for those bacon and eggs in the Mess we rolled the map Ezzie.

Yes, a big thanks to DRock and you Ezzie.

It was really good flying with Noofy and Rostic in our small flight of 3 'Blennies'. Ezzie in Noofys gunner slot acting as Airborne Liason with DRock.

Amazingly we all made it back, even Noofy, who flew all the way back from France on one sortie with no vertical tail section and therefore no Rudder.

The fighter escorts with us did a superb job and only once during whole night did Blue fighters get anywhere near to us. Thanks chaps!

A great event with bags of fun.

Thanks to all involved. An awesome community.

    Oh wow, amazing setup DRock
I must say that having a control room has added a lot to the realism and made today's event even more enjoyable.
Usually we all fly on same channel, but being able to communicate with your squad while staying informed by ops control about the status of our escorts was a great addition.
I can only imagine how much stress this must have put on you.
So thanks again for the organization (I know how demanding this has been too) and for nursing us during the event from your control board.
And many many thanks to all who participated. The experience is so much different once we go above a certain threshold of players. I wish we could have more and more of such crowded nights.

Note to self: next time when rudder is disabled, do not rely on auto-pilot for bomb run

I was making the usual small AP adjustments to align on target, and waiting patiently for the plane to react, blaming it on poor Blenny technology

I took a couple of screen grabs of Rostic flying formation on Noofy's aircraft - here's one of them.

    Slide6.JPG

Still pretty cool when you think about this (maybe this is only cool for those of us who grew up pre-internet) - this image was taken by a player from Australia 'sitting' in a virtual aircraft flown by someone in Lebanon while another player from Ukraine flies another virtual aircraft within a wingspan or thereabouts of the aircraft.

Only the tinniest bit of jittering once in a while and Rostic came much much closer than this sometimes - great flying Rostic.

Had a blast flying in a small formation of Blenheims making runs on Calais Marck with Wukits, Jerry, and Fredrick.

Big thank you to all the organizers.

Fantastic job, DRock - well done!

Re: ATAG ASSAULT No.5: Turning the Tide

Had a fantastic time flying a Spit with equally fantastic fellas!

Despite a server crash, an Internet home provider crash (a hasty router reboot fixed it), and a calamitous Win 10 update the night before, everything got sorted out. I even shared a kill on a 109 E4N with Viper which was really a thrill.

Thank you, DRock, for setting this whole thing up and, as Controller, really putting it all together for us against an extremely tough adversary.

    Cheers to everyone!

    Awesome job DRock

I had a blast flying with Wukits, Scones and Fredrick (excellent navigation skills Wukits ). Just a pity Windows decided to download a major update causing all sort of chaos (note to self: switch on gaming PC two days before next ATAG Assault ).

    to all who participated.

Yes, amazing when you think of it the way you put it...

The second photo was taken during a waypoint turn as we can tell from the changes in the DI. I believe it was over the Somme estuary in AZ13. Great flying skills indeed Rostic

Re: ATAG ASSAULT No.5: Turning the Tide

Thanks for all the hard work organising and running this great event. As it was my first mass participation event a much more detailed briefing, including joining details etc would have been useful. As is was there was no information where I should go to, which airfield I should use to spawn from etc. Despite being on Teamspeak it did seem like everyman for himself at first. Other newbies I am sure would have found it a daunting prospect amongst the confusion.

Another great event. Thanks DRock for organising and to all, for and against us who took part.

Great to see a full server, although quickly reaching the 94 player limit meant I had to wait until my flight was half way to the first bomber rendezvous before I could even spawn in.

That mini ops room looks impressive DRock, I knew you had meticulously planned this event, but I didn't realise you went to these lengths. Great planning, which clearly worked as the bombers got through despite the usual quality of blue opposition.

It was great to be a part of Snappers fighter section along with Jeepy, TCP, Kev and Hampo. Sorry I lost you and ended up flying on my own, but hey, that's par for the course with me... just ask the Rag Tag's

Some great screenshots above. I recorded the event so hopefully I will be able to put a video together soon.

    Thanks for the fun guys

Re: ATAG ASSAULT No.5: Turning the Tide

A big thanks to the organisers from all FG28 pilots as well!

What a pity the server crashed, the 'big plan' was just too nice.
Anyway, we had a great time sneaking into France on sectret ways, finding our target and even managing to drop our bombs.
Three out of four even returned home!
    (Guess who didn't )

I'm really glad to hear that in the end the map was rolled and we could contribute our tiny bit.

So diversivying seems the way to success.

    S!
