Looks really good.
Hopefully nothing like the clouds in il2 great battles, the clouds in that game are a total mess.

Currently working on a short video coinciding with our latest update showing weather/cloud development for the upcoming TFS 5.0.
Noting many comments saying how real the screenshot looked, I have tried to emulate the appearance of a photo from the time period. One that you would see in a news clipping or book. Unable to choose between these three, so sharing them all.

I want the speed sensation flying between layers of cloud at different heights, like this youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1D8KPrR37U .
Pyrocumulus above largest (city-scale) fires (probably not needed for 5.0). Updrafts and downdrafts and turbulence in clouds. Flatter cloud bases when appropriate. Awesome lighting with darker surface shadows as appropriate. Rainbows!
All the AI aircraft crew members should have their vision obscured by clouds, but they must not instantly forget any aircraft/ground target/whatever they already know about, that disappears behind clouds... tricky problem!
Looks good so far!

I saw a picture in one of my books about 25 years ago that was tinted blue and I thought it looked nice. You hardly see it though.
Made it a little older

Thank you Pattle,
I am very happy with the new forms, especially with the more flatten bottom side of them. They are looking now much like "good weather clouds".
The effect is described here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cumulus_cloud:
"...Cumulus clouds form via atmospheric convection as air warmed by the surface begins to rise. As the air rises, the temperature drops (following the lapse rate), causing the relative humidity (RH) to rise. If convection reaches a certain level the RH reaches one hundred percent, and the "wet-adiabatic" phase begins. At this point a positive feedback ensues: since the RH is above 100%, water vapor condenses, releasing latent heat, warming the air and spurring further convection
In this phase, water vapor condenses on various nuclei present in the air, forming the cumulus cloud. This creates the characteristic flat-bottomed puffy shape associated with cumulus clouds..."
Glider pilots are looking for that because it is very good indicator for thermal updraws.
Carry on, TF
The fun is always in the sun
TrueSKY has been confirmed by the team on Facebook as the new cloud and weather systems render engine. Looks mightily impressive!
"The needs of the Flight Sim Community outweigh the needs of the one or the few"
Just to drop it in there, TrueSKY has NOT been confirmed as yet by any TFS member.
So until it is confirmed I do not see that this is anything other than speculation.
Happy for Pattle or Buzz to correct me here, but could also be a detail that is not for release if it were the case.
Seek and ye shall find

True Sky has not been confirmed as the Weather engine for TF 5.0.
TFS is working on improvements for the weather and cloud systems for the map.

Pattle

Amazing! Wow, when I first saw that I thought it was a contemporary photo! Congratulations on the fine work!
Seriously impressive looking sky, well done guys.
love clouds, every sky should have one or two. Not too many please kills spotting
Seems to me 'real weather' would provide a TREMENDOUS amount of replayablity to COD, both online and off. Always changing weather would impact mission types, tactics, routes, timing..pretty much EVERYTHING that would keep this game interesting and playable for years.
Something like FSXWX?
It would certainly add an additional sense of realism and what real pilots had to consider before and during sorties. I don't know much at all about how it works but it does seem a fairly easy to implement possiblity based on FSX. You wouldn't have to cover the entire globe either, just the existing map area. Would making bombing, escort and intercepting much more challenging and less routine. Just a thought..
I wish I had other things as plenty as "no time".
Just logged in after quite a while and saw these clouds. Can't believe it, thought at first of a promo shot with real clouds copied in...
It looks bloody awesome!
I've said it many times and it looks like as if I'll still have to do it in the future: You guys simply rock!
and Mysticpuma: delivering great stuff for how many years now? Still remember your "Against All Odds" from 2002 or 2003(?)...
How about some more weather pics. This is a single pic from almost 4 months ago. Anything else that can be shared? Different cloud types and/or conditions? Morning fog? Sunset? Sunrise? Rain? Snow? Different lighting conditions?
We continue to work on the implementation of our new weather systems.
Most of what is being worked on relates to Frame Rate improvements, shaders which are difficult to see with the eye, and involves a lot of coding which isn't visible.
We are confident we'll have these changes in the game... but may be a while before we show a complete product.
Any updates regarding VR and Truesky that can be shared? This post here originated with a 'first look' back in November, 2019 I believe. Are we any closer to seeing it or will it become part of TF 6.0?
