Current Coronavirus and Bush Meat markets

All of the Coronavirus strains are believed to originate or be harboured in Bats.

Because of the nesting habits and the density of the numbers in their roosting areas, disease is easily spread. Bats also develop very little immunity.

The current virus originating in Hubei China has as its likely source the same cave of bats that spawned the Sars virus.

Both were spread to humans via 'Bush Meat' or as the Chinese call them 'Yei Wei' markets which specialize in selling wild animals for consumption... often the animals are kept alive prior to sale.

In the case of the current virus, it is believed to have spread from live bats at a market... to live snakes... and then to humans.

The Ebola virus which nearly devastated Africa recently also spread from Bush Meat sales... it likely came from the sale of primate meat... primates who were infected by bats.

Despite the fact that thousands have died and the additional fact these viruses cause huge damage to economies, the consumption of Bush Meat continues... bribery and corruption likely a big part.

How in this modern era we can tolerate the level of risk these eating habits generate is beyond understanding.

I 100% agree about your statements about bushmeat.
It is perfectly disgusting and in most cases (certainly not in China) not related to a desperate need for food.

Ebola, Sars and others (maybe HIV as well) are certainly connected to this.
    But not all are.
Remember the Hendra virus in Brisbane 1994. It also moved from fruit bats to horses and from there to humans just by contact during cleaning the stables.
All of the viruses mentioned above use bats as alternate hosts. They are highly mobile and tend to migrate into human populated aeres when their natural habitat is destroyed.

Thanks for the heads up, Guys.

I was so gonna get into bat eating, since our grocery foods were starting to get boring.

I’m just glad the Chinese government is always honest, especially about things as serious as this.
