TF 5.0 Team: How difficult is it to use something like FSXWX?

Seems to me 'real weather' would provide a TREMENDOUS amount of replayablity to COD, both online and off. Always changing weather would impact mission types, tactics, routes, timing..pretty much EVERYTHING that would keep this game interesting and playable for years. It would certainly add an additional sense of realism and what real pilots had to consider before and during sorties. I don't know much at all about how it works but it does seem a fairly easy to implement possiblity based on FSX. You wouldn't have to cover the entire globe either, just the existing map area. Would making bombing, escort and intercepting much more challenging and less routine. Just a thought..

Just bumping in hopes that someone from Team Fusion could chime in. Thanks.

TF5 will be overhauling the clouds and weather system. Watch our announcements for screenshots that feature this major upgrade.

Thanks for the reply Oskar - I was aware of the work TF is doing regarding weather but wanted to know if something like 'real weather' was being implemented so that every time you played a particular online map the weather would always be different. Playing the same map in the same weather gets old quickly. 'Real weather' would also give the game a chance to show off how nice its varied weather could be. Here's hoping..

    Interesting question, SamJoDo.

I’m wondering if it would be possible on the server to randomize the weather each time the map resets. Stay tuned.

Yes, same mission with randomized weather of each individual element (wind, time of day, cloud cover and cloud height) when the mission rotates is possible to do but majority of players did not want it in the past so the method wasn't/isn't really used.

To increase bomber survivability, all that's required is visibility reduced to 2 or 3 miles above 15,000', or some such agreeable constraint. Furthermore, visibility at less than 2 miles below 700' could afford cover to the low level bombers. Once you coast in, visibility could increase for attack as well as defensive ops.

Using real time weather could never work due to global climate change. It's just so much warmer now than in 1940.

What Wolverine said. Mission makers can set the weather and times in the mission, and a few of us have tried bad weather or late afternoon/dusk missions and too many people complain because they can't see. It is a balancing act for online missions when it comes to this.

Is there a randomizer for weather? I would love to do this for the Air races.

Re: How difficult is it to use something like FSXWX?

The first version of London Ruft in late 2014 had 'random weather' that was different each time the map was on the ATAG server. Time of day wind speed and wind direction and varying cloud were all variable.

Unfortunately some players struggled with the wind speed and changing direction so i ended up taking it out of the mission due to 'popular demand'.

So this capability has always been available to some extent but may not have universal appeal.

Re: How difficult is it to use something like FSXWX?

This game has been around forever so anything that can increase the replayability is desperately needed so..if we are talking about building randomness into everything here is a pipe dream:

The game already has the one map but so little of it is actually used. The few current maps have been around for so long they really don't hold that much interest any more. So..

We only need 1 map. Then randomize the targets and weather each time the map resets. For example:

2 or 3 targets randomly picked for the London area, 1 or 2 more randomized for the southern section of the map and 1 or 2 randomized targets to the north east. Each time the map resets pick more random targets (a couple in each area again as previously described). Pick one or two targets for each area of the map, some that require low level dive bombing and a couple that require high altitude bombing. Throw in some random convoys each time the map changes along with random/real weather and I think you increase the replayability of this game ten fold!

    Just my thoughts..

This has been my goal since I started tinkering with FMB.
I figure so little play the servers, what doe it matter if it was more "realistic"?
I'd love the challange of recon to find the targets, and then trying to drop on them from altitude with the wind coming from different directions.

This can and has been done. It wasn't popular with players. Might work now?

My vote +1 is to enable it, and just don't tell people.
