    Spitfire model?

G’day the model for the star of the show in this game has never looked quite right to me. I came across this the other day which points out some of the problems with the 3D model.

Question are there any plans to update the spit?

    Cheers.

    Re: Spitfire model?

From the 2016 IL2 Sturmovik update:

“We also begun work on the 3D models of the Douglas A-20B Boston and Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb. Perhaps you would ask why don't we use the Spitfire model from 1C's previous project Cliffs of Dover. It turned out that would be near impossible because the old Spitfire model had many inconsistencies in its basic fuselage form, we can't leave it as is and keep the current quality standard of our IL-2 project. All in all it was a good 3D model built many years ago, but its quality level in terms of being accurate to the original plane is obsolete. Therefore, the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb that we create will be 95% new.”

1C would certainly have had access to the original versions pre- 3.0, but not the subsequent Team Fusion Simulation’s versions (including 4.312 and current ver 4.57.3). I don’t know if the Spitfire 3D model dimensions were changed/updated over the years, but it’s an interesting question to ask in view of the statement above.

    Let’s see what comes up.

    Re: Spitfire model?

I have always had a particular interest in the Mk 1 Spitfire and years ago used to make pencil drawings of it from many different angles. I personally feel that the Spitfire as portrayed in Cliffs of Dover Blitz is almost perfect in form.

I only have two criticisms of it, both minor - the top of the cowling just aft of the spinner should possibly be slightly more rounded at the 'shoulders', and the rivets are too prominent.

In the last few years, for the first time a couple of genuine Mk 1 Spitfires have been restored, and looking at photos of them confirms my feelings about these two points.

Having said that, these are only minor criticisms which I can easily live with, and I think that the CLoD Blitz Spitfires, especially with the early pointed de Havilland spinners, look fabulous.
