    Residue Belt

A question: if I leave Residue Belt at 0 does it mean I leave unused capacity for bullets, or does that capacity get filled by the main belt?

Do I guess it right that Residue Belt is used to indicate depletion of bullets?

    Thanks!

You get always the same number of bullets, regardless of how they are arranged main/residual: you might want some tracer - or lack of it or a change of colour - to help you know when you are running low. But your enemy (humans not AI) will also read your tracers for clues. Spitfires shouldn't be flown online without tracer, that's so un-hysterical.

Lol, un-hysterical in what sense exactly? Say compared to Hurricanes?

    Thanks.

Unhistorical is anyone flying online in Spitfires with no tracers. Nobody should do that. Just stop. Put some tracer in so I can see where you are. Did you read this:

    Thanks.

At 400 yards, your Spitfire/Hurricane guns have punishing effectiveness on enemy aircraft while still permitting you to shoot at reasonable distances. Furthermore, you will be able to keep concentrated fire on a ground target like a truck without having to get too close to the ground. (See Target Fixation)

In gaming, the downside is the inability to see incendiary hits due to the distance. You may not see 'em but they are hitting!

After you get some experience, you will want to experiment (albeit unrealistically) with different convergence distances but in real life, you get what the armorers give you. Super aces like Buerling and wing commanders with personal airplanes may ask their personal mechanics to alter the convergence, but Tyros may not!

Likewise, the average Joe could not "special order" his ammo/tracer color etc... but you can use Yellow tracer in the game to eliminate the phosphor smoke trail while first learning the game. In real life, you shot what came out of the ammo box.

In my opinion, convergence is just an excuse for poor marksmanship. Working on your basic flying, lead sighting and trigger technique is more profitable than adjusting the weapons.

    This post is definitely un-hysterical!

    Re: Residue Belt

I'm inclined to disagree with Baffin's post about just keeping it the default.

Now, the default is of course historical.

However it is much less effective than reducing your convergence to say 250m and loading your belts with an AP/de wilde mix and putting tracers in the guns you want. The 400 yard convergence was abandoned pretty quick by the RAF as 400m is really a long range to be shooting fighters from. You will have a much better experience in CloD and bring down fighters much more easily with a 200 or 250 m convergence.

It’s amazing what a case of 18 year old single malt discreetly passed on to the Chiefie can get you....
