Can someone do a quick skin of the very in-authentic Aurora me-109?

Hopefully it won't be too tough...maybe even fun skin for the Bf-109E?I include the box art & the open box so a skinner might get the red approximately correct- it was a "deep" red almost on the cool side of the red spectrum. The whole thing needn't be exact- close enough will do.Any takers?

I wanted to show off what CloD could do to a non- flight sim modeler friend of mine. Also as a kid I built several of these terrible box scale Aurora kits...but at 9 years old in about 1956 who knew they were terrible...we did know they were bad guys's airplanes.Mine probably perished at the hands of my little brother or in glue fire crash landings in my backyard.Back then they cost below a dollar at the local store.Ebay has has mint boxed kits for up to $500.00! You can see why flying one around in Clod is more attractive...

One of the first plastic model I ever saw was this 'Me-109" in the mid 50's .Later in the mid 60's the kit was re-issued with this box art by John Steele ( I think...)but unfortunately it wasn'y the Bf-109F (?) pictured, but the same old "Me-109" originally modeled from Model Airplane News Neito (?)plans of the late 40's early 50's

From the text on the box - Will someone remind me again why 1/48 scale models are referred to as 'quarter scale'?

Is it 1/4 inch to a foot ... or something like that?

Re: Can someone do a quick skin of the very in-authentic Aurora me-109?

MOST KITS PRODUCED IN THE 1950'S WERE WHAT WAS LATER CALLED "BOX SCALE" , WHICH MEANT THEY WOULD FIT IN A STANDARD BOX SIZE THAT THE MODEL COMPANY BOUGHT IN BULK .ACTUAL SCALE SIZE WAS PRETTY "RAGGEDY ANDY'.GENERALLY MOST AURORA WW1 & WW2 KITS WERE ABOUT 1/50 SCALE SO ABOUT 1 INCH TO 5O INCHES GIVE OR TAKE.AS MENTIONED NEARLY ALL THE FAMOUS FIGHTER WW2 KITS WERE MODELED AFTER VERY INACCURATE BUT SETAILED PLANS AVAILABLE THEN.EVEN THE MARKINGS WERE PATTERNED AFTER THESE PLANS,LEADING TO SOME WILDLY INACCURATE DECAL SHEETS.NEARLY ALL WERE GOOSED UP WITH 4 BOMBS UNDER THE WINGS- THE SAME SIZE & SHAPED BOMBS I MIGHT ADD.NONE OF THIS MATTERED OVER MUCH TO AN EIGHT YEAR OLD BOY WHO WITH VERY LITTLE HELP COULD PUT TOGETHER 15-20 PART INEXPENSIVE KIT. WHEN LINDBERG KITS ( ALSO BOX SCALE) CAME ALONG THEY DID PUT AURORA'S EFFORTS IN THE SHADE...DITTO REVELL'S EFFORTS.
iT WOULD TAKE A WHILE BEFORE TRU 1/48 KITS CAME ALONG,i THINK mONOGRAMS WERE THE FIRST & IF MEMORY SERVES THEY WERE VERY GOOD. ONE ALSO HAS TO REMEMBER THAT THERE WERE VERY FEW SOURCES FOR ACCURATE MARKINGS OF (ESP GERMAN & JAPANESE-THE BAD GUYS..) i CLEARLY REMEMBER A 1960 ARTICLE IN raf FLYING REVIEW THAT BEGGED BRITISH READER TO HELP IDENTIFY A BF-109E THAT HAD BEEN BROUGHT DOWN NEARLY INTACT IN 1940 AND WHICH THERE WERE SEVERAL PHOTOS TAKEN ( I THINK THAT 109 STILL EXISTS ) THERE WERE LETTERS FROM THE AREA WHERE IT CRASH LANDED FROM MEN.WOMEN & CHILDREN WHO HAD IN 1940 COME TO VIEW IT & NONE OF THEM AGREED TO COLOR OR MARKINGS OF THE PLANE.THAT ARTICLE WAS ON THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF bRITAIN THE VERY BEGINNING OF WHAT WE PROFIT FROM TODAY.THE KRL RIES SERIES OF BOOKS OUT OF GERMANY ( WHICH i STILL OWN,) WERE THE FIRST TESTAMENTS IN THE BIBLE OF LUFTWAFFE MARKINGS.
HAVING SAID ALL THAT THE OLD CRUMMY ME-109B+ OF AURORA REMAINS ONE OF MY FAVORITE MEMORIES .iT MUST BE FOR OTHERS AS WELL BECAUSE BUYING A BOXED MINT ME-109 ON EBAY WILL COST YOU A FORTUNE!

It's funny but I think some of the nicest air combat art is found on model boxes

The early Monogram kits were still available in Europe (re-pressed no doubt) about 10-15 years ago. I picked up the quite huge Avenger, Hellcat, and Typhoon, all in original style boxing.
The Avenger has working folding wings, and I'm looking forward to building it one day in the not too distant future, ... when retirement comes.
Yes, the kits are still very good.

( I stash rather than build ... though it's only because I have no free time)
