How far does freya detect aircraft in THE WAR?

....or to put it another way, how possible is it for the same player to shoot me down mid channel and then , despite me instantly respawning at Eastchurch, hottailing directly London (nowhere near any targets) and flying in weeds find me again 20 minutes later?

That mission has custom radar code which was designed to help players find each other. I think...

Thanks Oskar. One to avoid in low population/camping scenarios then.

I just wondered since a certain well know name seems able to zone into me not matter where i was. Im no longer very familar with the radar but so its likely me but i thought a) 4-1 used a hard coded radar system with set limitations and b) mine never showed a damn thing!

BTW "BOO" is my dogs name. I never meant it as "BOO!!". Anyone who has flown with me will soon realise i do very little "BOO!" more that i wave weakly from afar saying "excuse me....hello...er....over here" The only real exclamations come in my regular use of the word "Argh"

Well when I fly the Bf 110 it seems to attract fighters coming even from Norway or some Pacific island...

I had a little fly the other day and only SamJoBo and myself were on. No radar and no clue i just flew up the coast from Wilmo and there he was just crossing inland near Littlestone. So unfortunate. I almost looked away and pretended i hadnt seen him..................almost.

Boo(ster) is aviation related (long story oft given) so if we do get another it'll also be named in a similar vent im sure. The one thing i can say is that unless its something with huge drooping jowels and a head that dont match the body, it wont be called "Buchon".

Can't remember where I set those limits at, but freya shouldn't touch english ground. (Myself excluded, I have tried to go right through it a few times) I may have set it to almost the coast for that mission, it was so long ago. I don't have alot of my old files after a pc switch a while back. Might have to dust off the ol x-55 soon and get back at this!

Thats what i feared - Unless someone else has altered it. Given i deliberatley flew away from anywhere of any importance at 150ft I find a certain player's abilty to zero right accross virtually half of the map and then circle above my position very suspicious.

That is suspicious. Over my pay grade for sure, without seeing the files to confirm radar coverage I can't help you on that one. Throw it up the chain and see what happens? Pretty sure Clodo is tamper-proof tho. I also thought 2020 was gonna be a good year so there is that.

Boo - sorry if you know this and have already discussed it.

Tab 7-1 will track you no matter what height as follows

    (a) Tab 7-1 will track the first bomber and first fighter to spawn in on your side no matter where or at what height they fly.
    (b) Once the first fighter/bomber is destroyed/despawned it will then track the 2nd fighter that spawned in until it is destroyed/despawned.
    (c) rinse and repeat as it works thru the targets in spawn in order

This is very noticeable if you are the only bomber on your side - this is why they will find you out in the middle of the ocean at 3ft. To prevent this what i do when flying bombers if I'm the only bomber pilot is to spawn in (tab 7-1 is now tracking me) and then send an AI bomber raid somewhere and then i despawn (tab 7-1 will now be tracking one of the AI bombers once i despawn). I then have about 60 minutes where tab 7-1 isnt tracking me. And what you can also do is to get a player to spawn in first in a bomber and then get them to fly somewhere totally different to where you are going. I think at least one of the missions in rotation might have done something similar with AI planes being spanwed in at the start of the map and then not flying (but are still being tracked by tab 7-1)

So in the cases you described above i'm guessing - pls correct me if I'm wrong - that that was only a very small number of fighters on your side when this happened?

If so - if you were the first fighter to spawn in then tab 7-1 was tracking you from the moment you spawned in. If there were other fighters flying when you first spawned in then tab 7-1 would be tracking them until only you were left at which time you became the tab 7-1's tgt. And then if you respawned with no one else left flying fighters you were being tracked from the moment you spawned in.

So this is the original Tab 7-1 implementation (or at least this was how it worked when i started here in 2014). A couple of years later it was changed and it no longer tracked aircraft below 500 ft or tracked me in my trusty 110. And then a couple of years later it reverted back to the 2014 implementation which is what it was when i last played online in late 2019.

So that might explain what is happening. Sorry if its not and/or I've misunderstood what happened to you.

    Ezzie

TAB 7-1 makes sense and although i dont remember seeing any reference to it in the briefing I dont think i tried it either!!

That makes me happier in a way but its equally its a bit Sh1te if you are the one Red or blue in the server. Certainly dimishes your will to even attempt to provide any entertainment. Especially given every "ace" is flying an E4N or Spitty MkII.

Still one to avoid for me.

why not disable tab 7 1, better if it wasn't available, then susceptible to this kind of hack which has people following ghosts and spoiling their time on line.
