I don't want a BoS career for Clod/DW, I just want it to have it's own (that isn't full of the crap you rightly mention above and I am very aware of)

I hear there are plans at some stage to do so in DW, so will wait patiently; I'll check in to see how people review the scripted ones too.

    Bi planes rock.

Did a Highseas Tour in Moths once to find the source of the River Thames... awesome fun... took about 3 hours... we found it though... amazingly...

I can’t fly them for toffee... but ... I can't really fly the single wing planes either

Where I truly excel is in the zero wing ones.

    Those are FAST !!

The campaigns in Clod that came with the release in 2011 are not a success, to put it mildly. But I do prefer static campaigns, the campaigns that came with IL-2 Forgotten Battles were good in my opinion. You got your briefing, debriefing and also had a historic story line with the progress of the war. With the moving front lines on the map. It came with log book, medals and promotions. This gave the sim an extra dimension. May be there is a 3rd party that will offer these campaigns after the Desert Wings - Tobruk release. Wishfull thinking probably.

One page is dedicated to Dagwoodyt banging on about his bloody UI whilst another two are VR Victors telling everyone why they wont be buying it (like anyone cares) and of course a good smattering of BOS fanboys calling for its demise so we can have sh1te spitfire Fms and spotting problems over dover fill the rest.

Laughable that one poster states "its a finger on the pulse" when its actually just the same 20 usual supects trolling out the same 20 usual comments (for and against).

Yup its hardly overwhelmingly positive but equally its nothing shockingly new.

Re: IL-2 Sturmovik: Desert Wings - TOBRUK Announcement

There were always going to be complaints about the price. The simple fact is that the amount of new scratchbuilt aircraft, cockpits, ground models let alone an entire map which has been researched and detailed topographically correct for the time period......why do people think products like this have no value? Others have mentioned that BoX, DCS, Microsoft Flight Simulator and various other products have expansions with a fraction of the content being made available yet the cash flows readily with little complaint. TFS have taken a broken product, rebuilt it and progressed it exponentially in comparison to the husk it was initially....yet $70 dollars is a point of consternation for a product that will give months if not years of playability and enjoyment. Now compare that to the same amount spent on a meal? Perspective really is everything.

Finally it's great to hear that Tobruk is to hit the virtual stores, which with the years of time and effort invested by TFS members will start to finally make the sim community understand just why it has taken so long to come to fruition. I do understand the frustration, yes it has been 7-years since the first unoffical patched dropped but that sort of ground to a halt after the deal with 1C came good and the actual game code could then be used necessitating a wre-write of everything created up to then.

So consider that for 7-years the guys have been working between real jobs and then using their 'down time' to work through their evenings and days off to carry on creating this with no reward, simply the love of the game. Then Jason Williams came along and offered the opportunity for them to maybe see a finacial reward for all those years and now the bar has been set at $70 . I mean let's be honest, the time, effort, electric, computer equipment, software, etc, etc used by these guys is hardly going to be cheap and yet we have people complaining that a small amount of $70 for 7-years work is too much? To be honest, it is embarrassing to see followed by "No VR, I'm not buying it!". Well, Buzzsaw has posted..there will be VR, Jason has posted that TFS are very much aware.

Personally I am a bit disappointed that the new weather wont be available on release but as it will be added after release it will be great to see the marketing images and footage showing it off as it really does lok exceptional and if it had made it for the release it would have been a real show stopper, but such is life.

The only other disappointment I felt was the lack of Wellington interiors in the video. This is a big selling point and the Wellington was voted in a poll at 1C as the most anticipated aircraft.....maybe a new video is being made for the actual release?

Great work TFS and don't let the negativity of the price distract you. The price is minimal compared to the amount of content included and I hope the flight sim public realise this and get behind the release. We know that v6.00 will most likely include a 4-engine bomber and as CloD currently is the only sim able to cope with large formations.....let's hope we get to see that come to pass, while appreciating that now the software tools are all in place, any future development will be much, much faster!

    Great news TFS, cheers, Mysticpuma

Re: IL-2 Sturmovik: Desert Wings - TOBRUK Announcement

I can live with the VR crowd saying they won't buy until it's in the game for good - their choice, fine by me.
Especially with VR being one of the post launch top priorities I can see them hop on in the foreseeable future.
I can live with the people who say they want a dynamic campaign for Blitz/Tobruk - to each their own.
Maybe the inclusion of a better coop experience and some dynamic campaign generator further down the road will appease them.

What really gets me salty however is seeing the same tired old faces over on the IL-2 board criticizing and slandering the product & team before 5.0 is even out.
If you dislike the sim and devs so much then maybe move on? Do they not have anything more worthwhile to do with their lives than to smear virtual crap all over something they are not interested in and not planning to use? Just... let it go!

I hope 1C package Blitz and Des....sorry i just dont like the name..SandClod reasonably. At present i think Buzzsaw said Blitz is £6. Sandclod's release price tag is still i think less than a premium later BOS DLC and will also have a decent 15% off for the first week. If Blitz stays at £6 or thereabouts it cuts the legs off such complaints.

But thats all by the by. Its coming. At last. Well done!

Re: IL-2 Sturmovik: Desert Wings - TOBRUK Announcement

We will all know soon enough I guess.

The reality is TFS whom we all wish well with this endeavour is not a small bunch of guys working tirelessly for hundreds of hours anymore. Its a business and one competing against its peers and attempting to meet the needs demanded by its potential customer base. Not an enviable position to be in I imagine in the best of circumstances for a small team. I have seen the passing of many sims into obscurity or shrunken to a small Crowd of diehards motivated by dreams of revival while hanging onto their archaic computer systems no longer able to compete against their peers.

Comments claiming its the same 20 guys, or its only the VR crowd are pretty stupid and reminiscent of how believers bring about the death of companies. Its not only the VR crowd, nor is it 20 guys. Its the silent majority you need to be mindful of. Those firmly in the other camp, those fence sitters, those looking for the offline game. They should be your target audience.

No one doubts TFS are working tirelessly to create a VR component of the game, no one doubts they have every desire to succeed and that they are up against it, against their peer games with larger established audiences and resources. But the ignorance of some, stating its a bunch of BOS Fanbois being responsible for the lack of Welcoming TF5 generated posts...in their own house mind you, is staggering. To be honest, its just plain dumb of some of you.

TFS will need to work harder to compete as Normandy peeks around the corner. A better strategy would not be to compete at all and make TF5.? Something completely different. The plane set wont do it and really, who cares whats rolling around on the sand? TF5.? Needs a whole new look on the inside to make people believe.

That said, I have no idea what TF5 will look like on release. I hope time was spent into the things you dont see in the pretty videos.

Noone said its just the VR crowd - but you cant deny theres a lot of posts from them
Its not far off the that number who tend to comment on such on a regualar basis (on both sides of the fence)
The slient majority yes - not a vocal minority = its not a "finger on the pulse" for or against as one poster was claiming.
There are posts in there calling for clod to be discontinued in favour of BOS. Thats a fanboy in my book given no one sim is great at everything
Its also Cliff's house. Its cliffs sub forum. Its now in the same stable as GB like it or not.

People are not ignorant nor dumb because they see things differently from you Sp00k.

BOO forgive me but I don't see any of this in SpOOk's post. Quite the opposite infact. TFS and those people still active on these boards are going to have to get used to being developers of a commercial product. That will entail dealing with criticism in a patient and measured way. In my opinion the 1CGS boards allow for a lot more free discussion of these products than can be done here.
Whether you or Team Fusion are happy with that is.....well, it's going to happen come what may.

Fingers crossed for a smooth, bug-free release.

    Great news !

I'll be happy just to see full MP servers again, that's my wish.

I really hope the netcode is up to scratch and the mission makers have got some juicy scenarios ready for us.

Less is more sometimes with MP. I'd prefer one or two really well populated servers instead of 10 mostly empty ones.

Looking forward to some great MP action !

My not so expensive COD rig:
    Windows 7 64 bit
    ASRock b75m r2 motherboard - new
    Intel Core i5 3570 @ 3.4ghz - used
    MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4GB - used
8gb Crucial Ballistix Sport 1600 ram - new
    Samsung 250gb 850 EVO ssd - new
    EVGA 500 B power supply - new
    Thrustmaster T16000m stick - new
EDTracker - used / DELAN CLIP PS3 CAMERA - new
CH Gameport Pro Pedals - used

I know that VR is awesome but I've always been a little concerned about EMFs and if there's a load coming off of them into your head or not. I've got an old cable modem and just for the heck of it put the meter about a foot away and ticktickticktick flashing red so I put it about ten feet away under a wood box lol

Ok. I saw him call me dumb, stupid, arrogant and ignorant. Different viewpoints i guess. Im not going to die in a ditch over it. Sp00k is Sp00k, Boo is Boo. Still buy him a pint if i saw him.

EDIT - but not of lager. Good ole English Craft Ale.

Re: IL-2 Sturmovik: Desert Wings - TOBRUK Announcement

    Jokes apart, now I'm serious.

I saw here a lot of replies about who want this, who wants that, who is in favour of the VR, who don't, others who compare this game with another one and so on.

As I've already said more than one time if you like a game support it at your best. Don't compare and don't judge anyone else who could have a different opinion from yours.

There will be always people not satisfied by anything, even the day that God/Buddah/Maometto/Mia Califa/or WTH you pray/adore will invest some time to create the " perfect " PC game.

There is who uses bad words and who is around only to complain?

The best thing to do is simply ignore them. Isolate them not providing them even one second of your time.

They do not like this or that game? They want this, they want that, in a game simply because they have requested it, thundering from the top of their almighty PC desks and chairs? Well, peace.... we can't satisfy anyone on the planet earth, that's the real truth.

...but there is a small, important and easy to be done thing that we can do all and that is a lot more better than spending hours about discussing affirmations made by some " improbable online characters " or rather...

Spend our time to enjoy what we got so far and spend our time to strengthen the cohesion among the members of this community and the ones who like this game.

In brief guys... fuel your fun and personal amusement, don't fuel dicks. They do not deserve our time, even for a second!

Let's spend your time supporting what you like the most and what gives you the best positive feelings...It's much much more better and rewarding, no?

The worst thing that I can see happening here, is having gentle, respectful and capable virtual pilots spending their precious time to deal and discuss about a bunch of uselees " keyboard lions ". That's the only thing that I really feel as bad and that can really " ruin " us.

I repeat: ignore them, they will end up speaking in front of an empty wall ( Where they will surely start complaining about the shadows on the wall being too much pixelated and not VR ready... ...but that's not an our problem... )

The criticism is a thing, being rude or disrespectful another. The mutual respect is at the base of everything, at least IMHO. At least, I hope, here.

Just a quick note on this.
Anything (except political, religious, etc views that tend spark big fights) is allowed for discussion in this forum so long is a rational discussion and not trolling. On the same token, anyone from ATAG or TFS is free to answer/reply both their official or personal opinions.
I would agree that both the "rational" and the "reply" part might make some feel like their opinions are being censored in some way, specially if they are not used to have rational exchanges or to get replies that oppose what they feel.

Regarding TFS criticism, it is welcomed. What many don't understand is that:
1.- One thing is giving an opinion and another is being a pain in the %#$%#$ trying to repetitively force that opinion on everyone else.
2.- TFS team, as any other dev team, is made of humans that get tired, depressed, frustrated and what not. Since there is no forced centralized PR comms prohibiting them to express their thoughts, this sometimes might come in the form of a harsh reply (which again is allowed as long as is rational).
3.- There might be reasons beyond one's understanding or even beyond the team control that could make a request or opinion "meaningless". Just to clarify, by meaningless I mean that nothing can be done about it not that someone's opinion/request is ignored just because s

Also for everyone to keep in mind, no one should expect the same level of support, criticism or neutrality from one forum to another. Just to illustrate the point in an exaggerated way, imagine posting "Team A is the best in the world" in the forum of your favorite sports team and then posting exactly the same on the rival team's forum. You can be 100% sure the reception of the post will be different.
