    AI team mates not shooting?

    Hi, I'm new here. I've noticed in several quick missions that some AI planes returning to base still have their gun port tape intact while mine and some other AI planes have our ports shot through. Is this really an indication that these planes didn't shot or is it just a graphical oversight? Is there an "engage the enemy more closely" signal?

    Maybe more specifically narrative? Which one(several quick missions) mission? Your plane & AI plane? Distance between you and AI (with out shooting)?

    The game it has a quick menu for this as long as you are the flight leader of that AI,try to press [TAB] in flight

    Hi fenbeiduo. Thanks for replying.

    I've seen this behavior in "Dogfight - even - low level" and "Bomber Intercept - channel" perhaps others I played in the past as well. I have attempted to direct AI planes to attack with the "air targets" > "bombers (of fighters as the situation warrants)". Before posting this message I lead two AI team mates to a wounded bomber and used "air targets > bombers" but they followed me as I pealed off as I was out of ammo. These AI mates were within 200 metres and following me when I instructed them.

    If people tell me this is typical behavior, great. I'll continue trying to order the AI to do the right thing.

    What version are you using? The AI has been extensively modified for TF5.

    I still notice some AI team mates returning to base with gun port tape intact. This is in Blitz (5.001) quick missions as before. Perhaps these are wingmen who listen to instruction watch their leader and don't get involved even after their leader is out of the fight and targets remain. Is there a log I can check to see if these planes did shoot and this is just a graphics issue that shows their guns unused? Thanks.

    AI wingman's should attack fighters or bombers without your command, this is triggered by Waypoint order, e.g Attack fighters, or Attack bombers. AI tasked for attack one type will ignore the other.


    But you can give commands via Tab-#-#
    First need select the recipient, if is
    Wingman
    Flight
    Group
    ....

    When AI "receive" your order all answer with a simultaneous and cacophony "Attacking now", if you hear nothing is because they are engaged or far away from you.

    Sometimes when you are in the six of a enemy the order "Attack my target" work, again if you wingman's are close to you. I have some success with this in the missions that you mention, but is not much consistent...

    Depends on AI skill they don't engage, e.g. Rookie, are just targets.

    I am not sure, but I have impression that a waypoint orders have a timer, so when this timer expire AI don't fight anymore and return for base, if you follow and shoot at their six, they just maneuver for avoid, but don't engage you.

    Thanks for reply 1lokos. I'll try giving commands some more. I noticed in 1946 pilots doing their own thing unless they were veteran or higher.

    I was able to transfer those pilots who wouldn't shoot to the army and got some new guys. Now all planes are engaged in the fight.

    I did this by modifying the *.mis file to increase the Discipline attribute for pilots with low attributes.
