    Cliffs of Dover Wishlist 2.0

I remember years ago there was a CloD wishlist thread. Instead of reviving that old one I thought why not make a new one.

In this thread we can post:

    -suggestions for new features

-bugs we would like to be fixed

-new content that would be nice to see

    -quality of life improvements

    -etc

Now of course I'm not a developer and this is by no means an official request thread - it's just a thread where we can share some of our wishes - no matter how realistic they may be. So if you really want a flyable Lancaster this is the thread to put it. It's also a good thread to ask for a slightly tweaked contrail effect or a more powerful explosion on the 20mm shells though.

    Let's see your wishes, everyone!

Re: Cliffs of Dover Wishlist 2.0

I'll start with a list I compiled after playing CloD (singleplayer mostly) over the past weekend. It's not an exhaustive list, just the first things that came to my mind.

    Wishlist:

    --== GUI/Menus ==--

Search function in the control assignment menu.

Unused controls (Engine 8 controls etc) deleted from the control assignment menu.

Warning popup when you press "new" on a campaign that you already have progress in to prevent accidentally restarting a campaign.

Refined menus with a dark background behind all the text. A complete overhaul would be very welcome.

AI skill setting in the Quick Mission menu.

Easier way to adjust weather and clouds in the mission builder.

Button to toggle HUD visibility. This is already implemented somehwat in the track viewer!

    --== Visuals ==--

Add visual effects for: water tank perforated (similar to venting effect), oil smoke when engine damaged, oil tank perforated (similar to oil rad venting).

Research exactly which types of tracer rounds leave a smoke trail and which ones do not.

Clouds don't dissapear when zoomed out when there are lots of clouds in view.

Fade-in on distant objects, smoke plumes, the dover harbour wharf things, etc.

Clouds actually made 3d, or at least cloud sprites made to not wierdly rotate when flying and looking around close to them.

    --== AI/Singleplayer ==--

AI radio comms rework - flight lead should announce changes of course and waypoints.

AI radio chatter speed increased and made to sound more natural.

Singleplayer AI that engages targets smartly - go for bombers first, attack planes other than the assigned "attack fighter" or "attack bomber" if both are not present.

Dynamic campaign/pilot career system. Should be able to start at the beginning of the battle of britain, pick a squadron, and fly at a historically correct squadron airfield against relatively historical raids. Preferably with the correct skins and markings automatically applied to all planes, and other AI allied and enemy flights going on at the same time to add to the immersion. Should also be able to be used in multiplayer. AI raids and intercepts still happen but players can choose to take part in them or fly their own planes alongside and concurrently.

AI should not bail out immediately if their control surfaces are on fire.

    --== Multiplayer ==--

All skins that come shipped with the game should be able to be used in multiplayer even if skins are disabled since everyone will have these skins already, and more 109 skins should be added that do not have the yellow nose. Even better if the skin is automatically selected to match the squadron that you pick for the plane and the date of the mission! This would mean for example that a dunkirk mission would have the RAF planes with the half black underside and the 109s without the yellow noses while a mission in September would have the white bellies and the yellow noses.

New menu in multiplayer to show list of all available gunner seats regardless of distance.

Remove the need for alt-F2 or moving backwards through the seats to let AI take over gunner again - make it so player only ever takes up one seat in the plane. Add a button to "lock" gunner positions to prevent other players from entering and only you can use the gunner seat.

Built-in system to keep track of amount of aircraft at an airfield for multiplayer campaigns.

--== General and Bug Fixes ==--

Unique fonts for squadron markings depending on the squadron for RAF planes. (Already implemented for the Luftwaffe which has different fonts for numbers depending on the unit.)

Damaged parts don't float in mid air.

Smooth movement for the animations on control surfaces and controls like joystick and radiator levers.

Buttons to smoothly adjust engine settings instead of by 5% increments.

Ability to assign hat switch/keyboard to a smoother pan view rather than 45deg movements and make the "recentre view" instant rather than a slow pan. Keyboard/hat switch users are already at a disadvantage so this would help them a bit.

More in-depth start up procedures, such as operating the fuel primer pump on the Spitfire and holding the primer and starter buttons rather than just having one start button.

Ability to lean head outside cockpit when canopy is open and plane is going slow enough so you can see easier when taxiing.

Automatic assignment of country of plane not by spawn point but by plane - so we don't have to see Luftwaffe G.50s or Italian Messerschmitts.

Accurately modeled Minensuchboot rather than a copy of the Flower class.

Bombs that have been dropped shouldn't remain on aircraft in tracks. Markings shouldn't be seen on tracks if disabled in the mission.

Re: Cliffs of Dover Wishlist 2.0

May have been a better idea to post this after 5.0 releases, when we actually see what TF has done for us and can judge the state of things going forward. I get it's just an unofficial discussion, but I'm not really thinking Team Fusion members are going to be excited about a whole new thread of wishes, bugs, etc. while they're probably swamped with work finishing everything up.

Not a fan of this to be honest. Some aircraft, such as the Bf109, Spitfire and Hurricane were in service with many different air arms. It should be up to the mission builder to decide which nation and aircraft is available at which airfield. In reality you never had forces of two or more different armies use one and the same airfield. The better option would be to have airfields dedicated to a certain nation as is already possible right now. That way you will always have the right combination of aircraft and markings online.

Btw there were Italian Bf109s, albeit later in the war. Also there were C.202s in German service, Spitfires in Italian service, ...

A thread like this can be extremely handy in gleaning ideas and gaining knowledge of what the public is thinking.
I do also agree with FightingSteel though, lets see what TFS have got lined up first as I know that there are a lot of changes going to be implimented that have not necessarily been spoken of.

Lets pop this thread on the back-burner for a good few months

I'd like to see magnetos required for startup, not just to rearm. And it would be nice if they could be mapped to an analog axis, along with cockpit lights.

Re: Cliffs of Dover Wishlist 2.0

Searchlights that don't look like a group of children waving them at a rave party (although I have asked if this has been fixed on the BoX forums....still waiting for an answer)

Loadout that can be chosen by the player on any mission (including Quick Missions) they choose (without convoluted workarounds of loading weapons in multiplayer then playing single player)

Propwash effects on ground and water:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hqMY5o2uYM

More camera positions added to the aircraft.

A free-floating camera effect like BoX has to make the effect of an aircraft free floating in air look much more realistic.

A Custom camers like BoX that let's the user (during realtime and replay) drop a camera wherever they like.

Plumes and tendrils brought back to the bmb and ground explosions.

The ability to run from an aircraft on the deck, just like the original BoX.

Crews that run from vehicles when under attack.

The draw bubble re-invented so it fades into view at the extremes of the draw point rather than pop into view.

Grass that extends over a larger area especially as ground and tank warfare is being touted as an option rather than the current small square of view.

Some more info. screenshots of the new weather model.

    3D contrails.

Expansion of the particle limit with an option added for those with powerful machines such as Cinematic mode allowing much more unlimited effects.

    Consideration for Nvidia Ansel.

Maybe TFS could develop their own version of Hyperlobby? That would be a huge bonus not just for CloD but all other combat flight sims....and bring a lot of attention and Kudos to TFS.

A DCG built on EnlightenedFlorists software and just given away freely, that way no issues with copyright or sales.

Just a few thoughts for now.

    Cheers, Mysticpuma

I think you can assign any engine control to an axis, thereby giving you 1% increments.

Re: Cliffs of Dover Wishlist 2.0

    Force feedback:

Bug where forces are lost then regained
    Remove jolt from 109 cannons
Add variable gun shake depending on calibre and rate of fire (did this for 1946, not difficult)
    Add turbulence in clouds

    Menus:

In campaign screen, separate the continue/new buttons so that I can't click on new and lose all my campaign progress

    Flight:

Info window with speed, altitude and bearing

    Views:

Correct the TrackIR implementation in external views
Mini map - make clearer to read and icon size to stay as set

    Regards

    Mac

    • Working oxygen system with a damage model
    • Variable/dynamic weather
    • Battle of Britain II Wings of Victory level AI in regards to tactics/manuevers
    • Cockpit shake when engines are on and firing weapons
    • Dynamic SP campaigns
    • Consistent use of 4 - 1 and 7 - 1 across all MP maps
    • 'Live' airfields - ground movement
    • Easier/coherent way to choose flak guns
    • 1 fighter cannot take down several AI bombers
    • Ability to call in AI wingmen, escorts or additional AI bombers when servers are lacking human players (only if AI isn't stupid)

It would be great when playing Single Player if there was a 4-5 second delay before the players own Ai shouts up "Good Kill".

Currently the microsecond an enemy is killed by the player, the players Ai announce "Good Kill" with some amazing psychic ability.

Would be nice to see an aircraft spiral down, or wing over and then the players Ai announce a kill.

    Small but irritating issue.

Agreed! Especially when it's a pilot kill, like how can the AI see that the pilot is dead? Would be nice to only see the message if the crew is seen bailing out (which they shouldn't do on little aileron fires, only engine stoppage, death spirals, or fuel/engine fires) or if the plane is seen crashing.

    S!

Hopefully the 109/110 automated prop pitch bug is finally gone in 5.0 The map could be less cluttered, especially town names etc. badly clutter it at certain zoom levels. Support for more buttons, axes and rotaries so there would be no need to use 3rd party programs. Look at DCS for a well done key mapping. But as said, have to wait and see what 5.0 brings on the plate

Yes, a "cacophony", due this I erase the "Good kill" voice, so now only hear a mic hiss.

It would be nice to see some kind of marking on the tail of German planes, even something like Battle Of _____ series uses.

The complete lack of insignia on the tail is so ugly.

I just remembered another control that is messed up... the flaps wheel on the 109. I was going to make a set of control wheels for the flaps and elevator trim, but then I realizes that the flaps control only gives you an UP and a down action; when the control is in the up position (whether button or analog control), the flaps wheel starts turning, and stops turning when you stop pushing the button or move the analog control back to center. Ditto when moving in the down direction. The water radiator used to operate this way too, but they fixed it in the Blitz edition. If they were to fix this control like they did the water radiator, then I could make a flaps wheel.
