Get ready for another tour of duty – IL-2 Sturmovik: Desert Wings Tobruk will let you experience the famous Desert War through the eyes of those fighting for dominance high above the battlefields of North Africa. You can fly over 40 aircraft and variants from the Royal Air Force, Luftwaffe or Regia Aeronautica. Experience combat in the legendary Spitfire, sturdy Hurricanes, stubby Martlets, and rugged Kittyhawks, or take flight in deadly Messerschmitts and Macchis.

IL-2 Sturmovik: Desert Wings features a 385km x 385km North African map recreating in precise detail the strategic stronghold of Tobruk and the desert and sea which surrounds it. Included are 75+ airfields, multiple landmarks and towns, an extensive road network as well as the historical fortifications, minefields and defences, all based on actual maps from the war. Combined with the excellent multiplayer environment that allows over 100 players and dozens of AI aircraft online simultaneously, IL-2 Sturmovik: Desert Wings promises intense and challenging human versus human aerial battles. For the Single Player enthusiasts, the game also includes 24 Quick Missions playable with any aircraft, 7 long form Campaigns based on historical Squadron experiences, and another 14 single missions.

IL-2 Sturmovik: Desert Wings - Tobruk will be available on August 6th via Steam and other digital stores for $69.99 USD. The game requires the base game IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover Blitz Edition in order to play.

Great news! Man it's been a long time coming, it almost doesn't feel real after following the development for so long - it's going to be surreal taking off over the desert for the first time.

Now, which plane to try first? I'm thinking the D.520 or the Macchi, but might have to be the Welly, "flyable wellington" was probably the first thing that got so many people hyped back in the day...

O no, just realised we are away that week, in a tent with no internet!!!

Well done and congratulations to the dedicated people in Team fusion, at long last the release is
imminent. We in 9./JG52 look forward to tangling with the RAF types above the Dunes and wadis
of Libya.

The inaugural running of the 9./JG52 Camel derby will take place approx 1 month after we relocate
to our Staffel airfield in Libya. All LW units are cordially invited to enter 2 camels in said race.
You will have to provide your own transportation for beasts and pilots/jockeys.
9./JG52 will not be held responsible for injuries or breakages to said pilots/jockeys
and a disclaimer must be signed before the event.
There will be refreshments served during and after the race in a specially commissioned
marquee which shall be positioned and one end of the airfield.
So i advise any unit taking part to select their Camels early after arriving in theater
and get training.
All entrants must be sent in writing to Lt. Mindle as he is official keeper of the Camels and Donkeys
at this unit on arrival (He does'nt know it yet , but he is. Due to his filthy habits )

Just for clarity, I take it the Jason statement on il2 CloD forum where he says pre-order and "get airborne first" doesnt actually mean a pre-order gets "early access". So it will only be available to anyone from Aug7th regardless (much as I would like the other to be true)

I think it's still the old school way of doing things with this game just like 2001 when I pre ordered months ahead of the November release at the electronics boutique. No early access and no paying for special aeroplanes. You get everything in one big package

IF I preorder and nothing goes to steam, how will I download the game? My original IL CLOD AND Blitz are all Steam download, so will a preorder affect my ability to have the game seamlessly updated (if that is possible) through steam?

If you order in the IL-2 store you get a key to activate the game on Steam. Order in the IL-2 store means that whole revenue goes to 1C/TFS.
Steam is only option for now.
