RAF fighters: Flap use in combat

If you attack a Spit or Hurricane from behind you often see that the aircraft has flap deployed. I don't believe that this was ever the case, particularly in the Spit, which had a low flap limiting speed and no intermediate flap positions.

I have raised this issue in Discussions on Steam, but thought I should drop it into Bugs as well.

I feel bad about raising minor issues when so much good work is being done on Dover/Tobruk, but whether they are accepted or given any priority is entirely up to the TF experts. Congratulations on all your work.

You are correct, flaps were not used.

However, the AI in the game do this... although I think this is actually a graphics error rather than them actually using them in combat.

Buzzsaw - Could not a similar graphics error be the cause of the AI aircraft sometimes appearing to apply full rudder - and up elevator also - whilst all the while flying straight and level or in a gentle turn?

It's always baffled me that the excellent flight model of CLoD appears to go out the window when an AI aircraft does this - but perhaps the sim thinks the control surfaces are not deflected at all, but a graphics error shows them as such.

It will be interesting to see if this flaps/rudder "graphics error" still shows up in the new TF5 Tobruk.

Yes this is a possible graphics error. Once we release 5.0, we should be able to start looking at a lot of the little oddities in the game. We have learned a lot about the game in the last year or so.

Tomahawks and Kittyhawks also have this habit.
