    Sunderland - Landing

    Hi,

Is it possible to have the Sunderland land on water?

    I tried:

    1) Just asking to land in water by putting a waypoint there - it landed at the nearest land airfield (rather well in fairness albeit without wheels)

    2) Putting an airodrome and runway in the water - it nosedarted into the ground (on two tests)

So, I suspect the answer is that it cannot, but could someone confirm this please?

(Can it takeoff from water is my next thought)

    Thanks.

The Tobruk map has several seaplane bases where you can land and take-off.

Sorry my question relates to the channel map. It's ok if it deosn't, I just want to know if I'm chasing my tail there?

    YoYo,

This work in a "It's CloD!" way.

You need put a runway object in the water for planes landing there, or they will search the nearest airfield on map for land.
Thing is that (invisible) runway put that yellow or red/white boards signaling the landing strip in the water, more "immersive" impossible,
and seems water don't have friction, so take ages for stop.

The other hydroplanes try landing with wheels down, with catastrophic results, other issue is that some regions near coast water don't have depth.

BTW - If you try use the small boats (e.g. lifeboat) available in FMB, will see that some think that are "submarine" and others that can fly.

Spiritus just ran some tests on the latest Tobruk build. He can place a runway in the water on the Channel map and seaplanes will land and take off.

This code update will come to all Cliffs owners on release day so you can try it out then.

Not sure if/what has changed to be honest. What 1lokos mentioned is what I did, however landing was fine for the Sunderland. For take off, it taxied the length of the marker boards and then released brakes, was up rather quickly.

Something worth looking at in the future for sure, opens up a lot of possibilities for missions.

    Re: Sunderland - Landing

My test attempts on the channel map were done on one of the water bodies at Portsmouth, although connected to the channel, perhaps there was something in their nature, or proximity to other airfields that caused my sunderland to hit the ground.

I'll try again after DW comes out in a better area of water and see, but I'm busy learning how to get things to attack, escort, etc at the moment. A bigger priority for my mission building aspirations!

In front the channel for this area, they landing more of less OK, Sunderland refuse stop in parking point, and start navigate in circles, one time set sail for France coast.

He-115 almost do the right thing, a nice glide on approach, but in the last moment raise nose and stall a wing, after taxi for parking point in one float and one wing tip.

    LOL.

Find a post - made by myself in 2013; in Sukhoi about Sunderland take-off from water.
Is not need add the runway object, just the airdrome point, so the yellow boards don't appear on take-off.

    Re: Sunderland - Landing

Well, if used just as "background", a reasonable "workaround" (CloD is... )
for seaplanes land on water is make then do a engine off landing, setting low fuel.

    Seaplanes.jpg

Gliding they land nicely on water.
