AI planes flying "wave Tops" / "tree tops" not working

Ok, this is not Desert Wings but previous version. I tried to setup my defiants to fly at wave top, to stop the enemy from sneaking below and attacking from 6 Low .... but I cannot get the defiants to fly below about 50 m ? I set it to 20 m but this seems to be ignored ???

Any help ?

Yes, I tried just about everything to get AI planes to fly close to the wavetops & honestly you're doing great to get them at 50m.

This is the 4.5X versions, haven't tried with 5.X.

The reason seemed to be in general, to keep the planes from crashing into the ground.

The AI is totally retaaaaarted. Only if i set the Pilot to "Novice" will it fly the set course. Otherwise, if an enemy plane appears, it starts flying all over the place then barrel rolling into the ground.

AI MUST be made moddable by players.

Not necessarily relevant to getting them to fly low but check this if you haven't already to try and fine tune their behaviour
