So I took out the tape measure and it's 16" from side to side. Monitors seem to be pretty cheap now a days too. I'm hearing 24" is a good size to buy.

I bought a 34' / 21:9 Ultrawide LG-Monitor (2560x1080) 5 years ago. Best choice ever. cheers, henry

Screens are actually measured diagonally so your 16" is more likely a 21" (and it's just the screen, not the frame it sits in).
When u see a monitor advertised it is the diagonal measurement they will give.
27" is a good value for money monitor especially if u are only doing standard high definition 1080p.
Many are using a high def TV as their monitor 42" and bigger.

Just before Christmas ‘18 the local Best Buy electronics box store had a Black Friday sale on LG 55” LED 4K TV’s. They also had the Oculus Rift for approx the same price. With my not-so-advanced PC setup I opted for the TV. No regrets. At the normal 70 POV view the Spit cockpit is literally lifesize (the width of my swivel chair). I usually fly in 2K, but 1080p also looks very good for online play and the pixels are easier to spot (especially the pixels that wanna kill ya!).
In Single Play I find that Desert Wings gives me acceptable frame rates in 4K, and the visuals are stunning both inside and outside the cockpit. Someday I hope to try VR, but that would mean a considerable outlay in cash for the head unit as well as the necessary PC upgrade. In the meantime, I’m happy with the TV.
