....if I might speak in JG 52's defence they are all 'gentlemen' of the highest order......... and I have forgiven them for shooting me down a billion times! An apology from them means something....I'm sure we all know that!

Also, since flying 'Desert Wings - Tobruk' I have had surprising difficulty in recognising aircraft. This is something I quickly learned to overcome in Blitz in the Kent maps, after a few embarrassing 'accidents.' So why the difficulties in Tobruk? A few days ago I lined up on a 109 over Monastir and was about to press the trigger when I was hit by a sudden rush of doubt. Was it a 109? Or could it be a Kittyhawk or Tomahawk? I must confess I wasn't sure and failed to fire. So, went sailing passed a beautiful 109 and lost all advantage!!!!!

With all the new types of aircraft on tap I think I now have to take much more care before opening fire! I really do need to look at the differences more closely....it ain't so obvious anymore! Salute!

In Blitz it was easy: straight wings bad, round wings good. And whoever just had to fly a G.50 or a Hurri usually got what he deserved from his own team

Now with all those different one engine fighters it is really, really hard sometimes, especially since they are all ten or brown somehow.
Couldn't we have a little colour difference? Bright neon pink for all axis aircraft or something like this?

Thanks Marlow forever a calming voice.
In theory if you are attacking a friendly bomber, as apposed to a friendly fighter then the bomber's gunners should not fire on you. Perhaps a sure sign that a mistake is about to happen. I noticed that when I was under attack last night from blue fighters my Ju.88 rear gunner did not fire. When I moved to the rear gunners position to try and fire back, thinking they were Spits, I could not fire the gun. The gunner may have been killed or perhaps this is a built in safety fixture on bomber's. Can somebody confirm that?

    Hi Flak Boss,

I'm sorry that you felt moved enough about your experience last night to post here given that I apologised twice in the server at the time and you never acknowledged either occasion. However the error was undoubtedly ours, but our ability to identify you wasn't as clear-cut as you might think. When me and Jamz attacked you we did so from behind and from an altitude disadvantage, crawling up on you quite slowly and into the glare of the sun. We were playing the whole "Blenheim or not" game the entire way in and I'm afraid that we both committed the wrong way, for which I can only apologise again. Friendly fire incidents are extremely frustrating to receive but also very embarassing to deliver. They are and were a fact of war, though. Mistakes can and do happen in real wars and those same mistakes can just as easily happen in our games and simulations.

Regards your gunners not firing, there is no "safety mechanism", but your gunner was killed on one of our passes which is why you were not able to return fire. Unfortunately gunners not firing upon you when attacking a bomber from the rear is not always a sure sign of it being a friendly aircraft. Some red pilots prefer to take manual control of their gunners in which case they lose AI defensive fire until they relinquish control of that crew spot in the aircraft.

Thanks Pans for your reply. I did not acknowledge your apology at the time of the incident as I did not realize I was a victim of friendly fire until I reviewed my video of the flight at midnight. I assumed I had been bounced by Spitfires. Anyway as you say these things happen in war particularly in the low sun conditions that were a real pain during the whole flight. Thanks again for your apology. I thought I had cracked it with my height advantage but as my video reveals there was several RAF fighters patrolling over Portsmouth several thousand feet below me. They would have probably latched onto me at some stage.

Re: Next event Saturday 2100 GMT - remembering 80th anniversary of Battle of Britain

Big thumbs up from me as I have never felt so anxious sitting at my pc and my neck is sore from constantly checking six.

Big thanks to atag Marlow for the intro on teamspeak.

Special thanks must go to atag Prattle for organising and also scaring a 109 off me with his hurri. I think it was me in the spit above the Isle of Wight in the first hour of the stream as I was dancing at angels 15 with a yellow nose for about five minutes and then it disappeared to allow me to evade. I remember the same screen messages. I had taken off from Andover to gain height and lost the rest of the chaps who started further south.
At least I fired my guns!

I still haven’t got the hang of teamspeak and didn’t change to the right channel to communicate as I forgot all about it.

I was running out of fuel and parked nose down in a crater at Tangmere.

I could not stay around for the second hour but hope to join the desert map next week if in can.

One question, how do I get quieter engine sounds but louder teamspeak as once I was flying I could not hear the banter or the calls over the merlin.

    Thanks again.

Flak Boss, like my squad mates already said, sorry that the incident happened. And I also apologize to you for any comments coming from me that might have come across as insensible after such a frustrating experience.

Glad you liked it! Thought it was very fun too.

Under Options, Audio there is a button for the Windows Sound Mixer. What I do is put the game way down (mine is at 1) and raise everything else. I have TeamSpeak at around 70. I hear enough from the game and TS is also loud enough.

Danke J-Hat for your message. As you say it was frustrating having got into a good position for a successful attack then to be downed by your own side. These things happen. I am sure I will be thanking you and other pilots of 9/JG52 in the near future for coming to save my skin in a coming battle.

    Hi there Slot,
We spoke briefly the event on Saturday. I'm a newby to this online malarkey as well. I was thinking it might be worthwhile teaming up every now and then to do some online training flights together. A couple of caveats... I am running on on older system, and only have IL2 CLOD Blitz, not the Tobruk expansion, and I'm in Melbourne, Australia. We are +10 hours ahead of GMT. Best times for me would be any evening (your time) from say 8.00 pm to 10.00 pm. Let me know if you'd be up for it.
    All the best,

Many Thanks J-Hat and Noofy for the info.

Had my sliders linked so when I decreased game sound everything went quiet.

Will fiddle with mixer and try different settings.

    Much obliged.

    Hi Bubbadelux

Good to speak to you too and it was listening to you the previous week that encouraged do me to take the plunge.
I’d be really up for that as I did pop on the server an hour before the main event last Saturday to have a quick practise.
8-10pm GMT is a good time and hope it’s not too early for you!

Shall we PM to arrange the best time and a training flight?
I am really happy with Blitz only as cut my teeth on single player.
My pc is pretty ancient too and I am trying to avoid any upgrades at moment given the market flux.
    Look forward to meeting up.
