Mods in BLITZ & DESERT WINGS TOBRUK??

Is anyone working in this area for BLITZ/DWT? Not a lot was done for BLITZ after its inception so far as i've found... Perhaps a section here and/or over at GB's CloD section all its own to draw attention to modders who would perhaps do more for this sim? Just asking...

My guess would b that most of the mod savvy folk are are working with TF. Haven't heard of any1 else trying to mod at this point.

This was something we wanted to do
These are not easily changed at the moment though, otherwise we would have done this for DW.

I understand. The default ones do class a bit with the default Luftwaffe aircraft especially if you choose yellow numbers

.... we did change all of the hundreds of squadron/unit markings though. They have all been reduced in brightness, and are less colourful now (they have reduced colour saturation). Many of this type of markings have also had some slight texture variation added. You can see this on the German Chevron markings, dashes, etc.

All roundels, crosses, Italian national markings, tail markings etc. have also been altered for TF5 Desert Wings. They have all been redone with less saturation, less contrast, and corrected brightness.

    Cheers

The multitude of 'little' things like these, that rarely anybody realises individually, make CloD and DWT as a whole so absolutely outstanding!
    Thanks!

    Speaking of ingame markings:
What about the German markings? I've seen that, unlike with the British markings, there are .mrk files deposited directly in the Steam game folder under "paint schemes" which seem to overwrite whatever is inside the .SFS files. This is the case for the older Blitz models of the Bf109E (E-1 to E-4/N) and Bf110C (C-1 to C-4/N). Also the German markings on the Bf109Es and Bf110Cs, are very inhomogenous, differing greatly in size and position from one squadron to another. Is that a "bug or feature"?

As an experiment of sorts I went ahead and deleted these .mrk files inside the steam paint schemes folder which had the nice effect of providing homogenous markings of comparable size and position for all LW squadrons on the Bf109Es and Bf110Cs. The downside was that the Bf109E-4/N and E-4/N_Late all of a sudden had no markings at all anymore, no matter if they were ticked ingame or not. Seems like there are no marking files for these two Bf109s in the .SFS game files that the game can fall back to. There's no such issue on all other Bf109Es.

Hopefully someone on the team can answer your question. Sorry but I can't.

Re: Mods in BLITZ & DESERT WINGS TOBRUK??

I fondly remember making a bunch of modifications to aircraft in the pre-blitz IL2 COD era, through the use of the Kegetys SFS ddl. This allowed me to unpack the sfs files and make modifications to aircraft configurations such as weapons (switch 303's to 20mm) and engine properties. It was even possible to change the aircraft meshes. It goes without saying that this was only ever done in single player for my personal amusement and exploration.

When blitz launched, one of the changes made was to flip the launcher to a 64 bit executable i believe, and this in turn broke the old Kegetys SFS ddl mod.

While I appreciate that team fusion may be wary of granting such capabilities to end users again (who knows what else could be modded, and what the security implications of such things are for multiplayer etc.), I would ask that they consider the fact that they themselves probably got their first taste of modding IL2 COD though this or similar tools, and that right now there is no way that I know of for new people to gain experience with making engine asset/config changes and become modders themselves. Who knows what the future of IL2 COD Blitz/Torbuk will be, but if there isn't a healthy pipeline of new talent into the modding scene, surely the future will be less bright?

It would be great if there was a way to do these kinds of things again, as long as there is a way to ensure its sandboxed out of multiplayer.

My 2c - all the best, and thanks to TF for all their hard work.

    Regards,

    Dave.

    Hi,
Off my own back I am creating accurate RLM colours for Me109E, Me110, Ju88A, He111h2, Ju87B2, Do17Z which after testing for change under V5, and I hope all look same as in Blitz, I can supply as new default skins for Blitz v5 as well as supply custom specific skins, as and when I get time. They replicate Merrick/Kiroff charts which are now 'the bible' and match actual aircraft remnants seen over 40yrs of specialisng in Luft and RAF colours. Then I shall sort out the RAF. If thats the sort of info you were asking of.

    Cheers
