Livestream 2030 GMT 26/9 - Controls, Windows, Ammo + bomb set ups + Dogfighting

IL-2 Sturmovik Desert Wings Tobruk Livestream

During the first 30 minutes of the livestream we will show you how to set up controls. Ammunition, bomb selections and info windows. Plus answer community member questions.

We will then head to the TFS Tobruk Server 3 where Pattle will wing up with Karaya and Yotheguy

We will show you the advantages of flying with a wingman, the work rate involved in being a wingman and the absolute importance of communications.

We look forward to seeing you there.

    Super idea

Vickers Wellington Mk1c. OJ-F P2517 'F for Freddie' of No.149 Squadron, star of 'Target for Tonight' directed by Harry Watt released in July 1941.

Freddy prepares for an air test prior to departure from Ford on ops with No.149 Squadron for a daring daylight attack on Marshalling Yards in Caen France 31\1|21. ATAG Operation Milk Run. Target destroyed. Six Wellingtons, One Blenheim together with
their Spitfire escort returned safely. One Wellington crashed on landing at Ford.

Excellent livestream Pattle. Very much appreciate the detailed information on setup and great tips on the benefits of flying with a wingman. Your efforts have rekindled my interest in this wonderful sim. Have teamed up with Slot (another ATAG online newbie) over the past couple of weeks to practise exactly this. Look forward to the next BOB Blitz event. Also looking forward to joining in the Tobruk fun once I update my ageing PC to the required specs- hopefully in the next couple of months. Keep up the great work!
    All the best,
    Bubbadeluxe

    Thanks for the stream guys.
    Really enjoying these weekly forays.
Only caught the first part but will watch rest later.

As bubbadeluxe said in post above we teamed up and had a practice on dangerdogs server as we are both multiplayer newbies. Was a heck of a lot of fun and we have good laugh at our antics.

One question though, how the heck to you spot contacts with full realism?
    I can’t see a thing.

Struggle to even find my wingman and he is telling me where he is!

Hope to join in another week and communicate now I have got my mic working.
Mute button on headset. Who knew?

    Slot
    Ha ha, Slot....the old 'I can't see a bl***y thing'...... chestnut!

This is a problem that we all struggle with at different times. Just a few thoughts:

The more you fly...the better you become at spotting contacts

The more you fly...the more instinct you have for where to look for contacts

The less you look at your instruments.......but fly 'backwards'......with your head 'out of the office'......the less you get shot down

When an enemy disappears from view, follow it in your minds eye.......it often appears where you expect it. (However, this doesn't explain the hundreds of enemies who disappear behind my cockpit frame....never to reappear! Ha ha!)

Learn the tactics of your enemy: 9/JG 52 are masters of high altitude and they work together as a very tight team. When you are dived on, remember: where there is one aircraft, the second will be following to 'clear up' if the first misses. If 9/JG 52 are on the server, be aware you are in danger at anything above Angels 10/12 and you MUST fly with your head outside the canopy...looking everywhere. The moment you relax is the moment you are vulnerable! If there are 4 x 9/JG 52 flying expect 'double trouble' and be extra vigilant! If in big trouble, do a split 's' and dive for the ground. (but watch your speed....cut throttle...open canopy for extra drag and don't let the speed build up above 350 mph) If you get away unscathed, many 109 pilots will not want to lose their hard won height and go down low, where they are far more vulnerable and can't use the 'boom and zoom' tactic so easily.

High flying 109's rely on you 'never seeing the aircraft that hit them'...therefore search, search, search! Once they come close enough, you 'WILL' see them but only if you are looking hard! The sooner you see them...the sooner you can react. A diving 109 is unlikely to be able to turn with you after you break. However, the difficulty, I find, is keeping him in view....knowing where he is after your 'break' because he will be looking for the opportunity to dive on you again! This 'situational awareness' is something that grows on you the more you fly. (It's frightening how quickly you lose it after a break from flying.)

Always try to fly with a wing man! It doubles your contact spotting power immediately and you can check each others six regularly...especially if you fly in a combat spread.......side by side but well spread so you can check above and behind each other. It's all very challenging but that's why it's such fun. With such skilled 109 drivers on our servers we have the most 'adrenaline pumping' combat available! Your teaming up with Bubbadeluxe is a great idea and means you'll become a force to be reckoned with in no time...but don't leave it too long before joining us on the multiplayer servers. That's where we all learn 'on the job' whilst having the most fun

Good to have you guys with us!

There is a contact spotting test on the Forum that many have benefitted from Here's a link to it:

See you at the next event, if not before! Salute!

    Hi ATAG_Marlow

I can defo see 7 (or 8 if i really squint and put my nose right up to the screen).

Also i am ignoring the pen mark i 'bounced' the other week.

No idea if that is bad compared to others massive behemoths.

My screen is my trusted 1920 x1200 Dell 24" IPS which has been great to date.

No way am i going to be able to replace it.

Like Bubbadeluxe suggests i may have to apply for one of those special Spit prescription domes from stores for my next sortie.

New graphic card drivers can mess up things quite dramatically.

Some months ago visibility was excellent with my settings. Yesterday, two or three updates later, I could not even see ships until I was right above them, whil my wingman saw them five minutes earlier.

The live stream died part way through so Pattle had to restart.

Ended up splitting it into two video's.
